Basic Function:
The function of a SR. Estimator is to examine plans, reports, project sites, and research costs associated with prospective jobs to create bids. He/she is the sales contact for the customer and will be the customer liaison for the bid. For the position of Underground Estimator, we are looking for a candidate that has extensive experience and a history of successful project acquisition and completion.

- Sales and negotiations experience.
- Computer software skills, including Bid2Win (B2W), Civil Image, Agtek, Foundation, Carlson or similar.
- Ability to work independently under the supervision of the Sr. Estimator
- Must have a minimum of three (3) years of experience in the Underground industry as an estimator.
- Must possess excellent reading comprehension and attention to detail skills.
- Must be willing to travel to sites to ensure accurate site conditions for estimating purposes.
- Must have a clean driving record and be approved on company insurance.
Reporting Relationship:
• The Senior Estimator reports to the Business Development Manager
Position Responsibilities:
- Enter plans into records: Bid log book, allocate a bid number
- • Examine plan, soils report, project specification, project bid guidelines and measure quantities
- • Review all existing and design ground files during bid
- • Obtain lowest pricing on materials to provide a competitive bid
- • Solicit Subcontractors for lowers responsive bids as necessary
- • Reply to invitations to bid, entering information onto bid log
- • Download Plans, specs, addendum to Bids/XXXX Job Folder
- • Check plans and specifications for special fills and incorporate into estimate
- • Create written document for bid listing inclusions and exclusions
- • Enter bid information into computer using Bid 2 Win Estimate per Elite procedures
- • Visit job site and read soils report prior to bidding
- • Price various options or alternate adds for job
- • Compare project actual amounts with budgeted amounts using a forecast and variance report
- • Generate bid project scheduling
- • Meet with general contractors to build rapport and establish a relationship.
- • Visit every site we are bidding on and take photos, save photos in the bid folder.
- • Review completed takeoffs and put together an estimate for the job.
- • Review estimates with Business Development Manager and/or President (if applicable)
- • Send bid to client via their preferred method (electronic submittal, hand-delivery, email)
- • Follow up with client to gather follow-up information and save results in bid folder.
