Job Title: Paralegal with Litigation Experience
Location: Charleston, SC
Pay Rate: Up to $30/hour
Schedule: Monday - Friday, 35-37.5 hours per week (8:30 AM to 5:00 PM)
Position Type: Temporary (6 months or longer, with potential for permanent opportunities)
About the Role:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Paralegal to support our legal team with environmental litigation cases. This role is critical in managing the preparation and organization of legal documents and providing comprehensive administrative support to attorneys. The ideal candidate has a strong background in litigation and is ready to assist with upcoming trials and an increased caseload.
Key Responsibilities:
Attorney Assistance:
- Provide general administrative and legal support to attorneys.
- Monitor correspondence, court filings, deadlines, and case statuses.
- Perform minor legal research and maintain current caseload information.
- Coordinate meetings, manage calendars, and handle phone calls.
File Management:
- Open, set up, maintain, and close litigation and non-litigation files.
- Archive or dispose of closed files per retention schedules.
- Ensure all files are organized and comply with established protocols.
Document Preparation and Filing:
- Draft, proofread, and finalize routine legal documents and correspondence.
- Ensure accurate formatting and grammatical correctness of all documents.
- Manage electronic filing and service of documents for court proceedings.
- Assemble complex documentation for state and federal courts.
Scheduling and Meeting Preparation:
- Coordinate adjudicatory hearings, proceedings, and meetings.
- Assemble background documents, coordinate with witnesses, and notify parties.
- Assist with exhibit preparation and provide support during hearings and meetings.
General Office Support:
- Answer phones, retrieve mail, assist visitors, and provide administrative support as needed.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Comprehensive understanding of law office operations and legal procedures.
- Proficiency in document preparation, electronic filing, and legal research.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Familiarity with trial preparation and managing large caseloads.
