Job Title: Temporary Paging and Digitization Assistant

Location: Special Collections Unit, Public Services

Position Description:

We are seeking a Temporary Paging and Digitization Assistant to join our Special Collections team for a 26-week position. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to digitization efforts and assist with the care of valuable collection materials. In collaboration with the Digitization Coordinator, you will be responsible for digitizing senior theses and paging collection materials for researchers in the reading room. You will also ensure the accurate reshelving of materials once research is complete. Training will be provided in the proper handling and care of the materials.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Digitize senior theses in various formats using multiple scanning devices (hovercam, flatbed scanner, microfilm reader, copy machine).
  • Perform quality control on digital files to ensure accuracy and consistency.
  • Page special collection materials from the secure stacks and deliver to the reading room.
  • Reshelve collection materials in the appropriate location after research is completed.

Required Skills:

  • Quick learner with new computer software and systems.
  • Strong ability to multitask and shift priorities when needed.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Comfort with repetitive tasks and maintaining focus.
  • Ability to take and follow instructions and established workflows.
  • Proficiency with Google Suite tools (Docs, Sheets).

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with scanning equipment is a plus.

Work Hours:

  • Monday to Friday, 8:45 am – 5:00 pm (with one-hour lunch break, summer hours: 8:30 am – 4:30 pm, 45-minute lunch).
  • 7.25 hours per day.

Duration:

  • 26-week temporary position (Start Date: February 3, 2025 – End Date: August 1, 2025).

Compensation:

  • $18.00 – $22.00 per hour.
