Health, Safety, and Wellness (HSW) Specialist

Our client is seeking a HSW Specialist, reporting directly to the HSW Manager, where you’ll help create a safe, healthy, and supportive workplace. This dynamic role involves leading health and safety initiatives, overseeing wellness programs, managing WSIB compliance, and contributing to major projects, including site expansions and facility improvements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Health & Safety Leadership: Conduct risk assessments, hazard evaluations, legislative reviews, and job hazard analyses. Collaborate with departments to ensure compliance and drive safety improvements.
- Project Management: Lead HSW projects, manage budgets, track deliverables, and oversee post-project audits.
- Site Expansion & Design: Provide ergonomic and safety input for facility planning and expansion projects.
- Wellness Programs: Lead quarterly wellness initiatives, reducing risks and evaluating engagement.
- Site Security: Oversee perimeter access, visitor management, and contractor protocols, ensuring safety and compliance.
- WSIB & Return to Work: Manage WSIB claims, case monitoring, and early return-to-work programs. Analyze injury statistics and recommend preventative measures.
- Team Culture & Compliance: Build a safety-focused culture through workplace presence, clear communication, and alignment with safety standards.
Qualifications:
- Degree/diploma in a related field and a certificate in Occupational Health and Safety.
- 3–5 years of experience as an HSW Specialist in the food or manufacturing industry.
- Strong knowledge of OHSA, WSIA, CSA standards, and ergonomic principles.
- Experience in WSIB case management, risk assessments, and wellness initiatives.
- Proficiency with MS Office tools and strong project management skills.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving abilities.
