Job Description

Introduction: We are seeking an experienced Civil Superintendent with expertise in civil infrastructure , underground utilities , and mass excavation to oversee and manage day-to-day operations on construction sites. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in managing civil projects, ensuring that work is completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality and safety standards. This role requires hands-on experience, leadership, and the ability to collaborate effectively with project managers, subcontractors, and the project team to ensure project success.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Site Supervision and Coordination:
  • Oversee and manage all aspects of civil construction projects, including underground utilities (water, sewer, storm drainage), mass excavation, and civil infrastructure development.
  • Supervise field operations, ensuring that construction activities are carried out according to the approved plans, specifications, and schedules.
  • Coordinate daily activities on-site, including material deliveries, equipment usage, and the work of subcontractors and crew members.
  • Ensure proper site preparation, including excavation and utility installation, with an emphasis on accuracy and quality.
  1. Leadership and Team Management:
  • Lead and manage a team of field workers, laborers, and subcontractors, ensuring efficient and productive work processes.
  • Provide on-site direction, motivation, and training to crew members, ensuring they understand their tasks and responsibilities.
  • Enforce company policies, safety regulations, and industry standards on-site, ensuring a safe and productive work environment.
  • Resolve any on-site issues related to work performance, safety, or project delays and take corrective actions as necessary.
  1. Quality Control and Safety Management:
  • Ensure adherence to project specifications, quality control standards, and safety protocols on all civil infrastructure and utility installation tasks.
  • Conduct daily inspections and safety meetings, maintaining a safe and compliant work environment by identifying and addressing potential hazards.
  • Review and verify work quality, ensuring all tasks are completed to the highest standards and comply with local regulations.
  • Ensure that all equipment is maintained and in good working order, performing routine checks as needed.
  1. Project Scheduling and Progress Tracking:
  • Work closely with project managers to track and meet project schedules, providing updates on project milestones and progress.
  • Assist in the development of project timelines and ensure that work is completed on time, coordinating with subcontractors and suppliers to maintain workflow.
  • Report any delays or obstacles to project managers, proactively identifying solutions to keep projects on schedule.
  1. Documentation and Reporting:
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of work completed, including daily reports, inspection logs, and material usage.
  • Prepare and submit reports related to project status, including labor productivity, site conditions, and any issues or concerns.
  • Assist in documenting changes or variations from the original scope of work and help manage change orders and RFIs (Requests for Information).
  1. Client and Stakeholder Communication:
  • Serve as the main point of contact for clients, subcontractors, and vendors on-site, maintaining clear and professional communication.
  • Address and resolve client concerns related to construction progress, quality, or safety in a timely and professional manner.
  • Ensure that all stakeholders are kept informed of project status and changes through regular updates and meetings.

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field is preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in civil construction, with specific expertise in underground utilities (water, sewer, storm) and mass excavation.
  • Proven experience in leading and supervising construction teams, including field staff and subcontractors.
  • In-depth knowledge of civil construction methods, including excavation, trenching, shoring, and utility installation.
  • Strong understanding of safety regulations and OSHA standards in the construction industry.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with team members and clients.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and plans.
  • Proficiency in using construction management software or tools for scheduling, reporting, and project tracking (e.g., Procore, Buildertrend).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • OSHA certification or other relevant safety training.
  • First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Previous experience managing large-scale civil infrastructure or municipal utility projects.
  • Experience with building information modeling (BIM) or 3D modeling software.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
