Our Client, a leader in commercial real estate and facilities/asset management is seeking to add a Data Center Engineering Operations Director to lead their Data Center management team in Mesa, AZ. This leader will interface with a key client in managing all things MEP (Electrical and Mechanical) in a 40K square foot data center operating 24/7/365 at 36 MW. This leader Is responsible for growing staff of 25 (in 2025) and will work closely with this staff and the client to assure upkeep, maintenance and advancement of the state-of-the-art data center (built in 2020). Future growth in this location will see 2 more Data Centers, 4 Facility Managers, and a staff of 100 managing a Data Center environment of 500 MW. Hiring is taking place now to allow this leader to grow with the business and the addition of data center facilities on this campus. This role is based, onsite, in Mesa, AZ, requires no travel, pays a salary in the $190K-$200K range with 25% bonus, a strong benefit package including unlimited PTO. The key to this role is a proven leader with a confident style, strong organizational skills, patience and technical abilities in the M&E space. This role oversees the operations and development of a team of onsite Critical Environment engineers, ensuring provision of both Preventative Maintenance (PM) and Repair Services to the Client data center. The incumbent will:
Manage the team responsible for managing the performance of MEP (mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems) and maintaining continuity throughout to provide overall quality control for all properties.
Oversee all financial performance for this client.
Approve hiring contractors and subcontractors based on facility need.
Implement bidding procedures as required for contract maintenance activities.
Direct the daily operation of facility controls and asset management systems.
Approve annual operating budgets.
Provide formal supervision to employees.
Monitor the training and development of staff.
Conduct performance evaluations and coaching.
Oversee the recruiting and hiring of new employees.
Coordinate and manage the team's daily activities.
Establish work schedules, assign tasks, and cross-train staff.
Set and track staff and department deadlines.
Negotiate with external partners, vendors, and customers of divergent interests to reach a common goal.
Identify and solve multi-dimensional, complex, operational and organizational problems leveraging the appropriate resources within or outside the department.
Significantly improve and change existing methods, processes and standards within job discipline.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's Degree
- 8+ years experience in a hyper scale data center environment
- 5+ years experience managing an engineering team of 10+ in a Critical Environment
- 5+ years experience performing/managing installation of Data Center Facilities Infrastructure and Building Management Systems (BMS)
- Proven knowledge of Critical Facility and Data Center equipment and components including UPS, PDU, STS, EG, CRAC, CRAH
- Strong understanding of 24/7/365 Data Center environments, and the working restrictions applicable to such environments.
- Experience working with/managing a client with understanding of an MSA/SLA environment is preferred.
- Experience working with financial data related to all of the above qualifications and using Microsoft Excel Including experience developing and managing organizational budgets.
Experience in the areas of staffing, selection, training, development, coaching, mentoring, measuring, appraising, and rewarding performance and retention.
Ability to lead the exchange of sensitive, complicated, and difficult information, convey performance expectations, and handle problems.
In-depth knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
