Position Overview:
As an Air Export Manager you will be responsible for overseeing and managing the end-to-end air export operations for a global freight forwarding company. This role ensures seamless coordination of shipments, compliance with international regulations, and the delivery of exceptional customer service. You will lead a team of professionals, work closely with carriers, shippers, and customs authorities, and contribute to the company's operational excellence and profitability.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Operational Oversight:
- Manage the entire air export process, including booking, documentation, customs clearance, and shipment tracking.
- Ensure compliance with international trade regulations, customs requirements, and company policies.
- Collaborate with airlines, freight handlers, and other service providers to ensure timely delivery of shipments.
- Resolve operational issues, such as delays, damages, or documentation discrepancies, with a focus on minimizing disruptions.
2. Team Leadership and Development:
- Supervise and mentor a team of air export coordinators and specialists.
- Provide training and guidance on industry best practices, company procedures, and regulatory compliance.
- Set performance goals, conduct regular evaluations, and foster a culture of continuous improvement.
3. Customer Relationship Management:
- Act as the primary point of contact for key clients, addressing inquiries and resolving issues promptly.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, ensuring satisfaction and repeat business.
- Prepare and present performance reports to clients, highlighting shipment status and key metrics.
4. Financial and Budgetary Management:
- Monitor and control operational costs, ensuring profitability of air export services.
- Negotiate rates with carriers and service providers to optimize margins.
- Assist in budgeting and forecasting activities for the air export department.
5. Process Improvement and Compliance:
- Identify opportunities to streamline processes and improve efficiency in air export operations.
- Stay updated on industry trends, regulatory changes, and technology advancements to ensure compliance and competitiveness.
- Maintain accurate records of shipments, invoices, and related documentation for audit and reporting purposes.
Qualifications:
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field (preferred).
- Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in air export operations within the freight forwarding industry, with at least 2 years in a managerial role.
Skills & Competencies:
- Strong knowledge of air export processes, incoterms, and international trade regulations.
- Proficiency in freight management software, such as CargoWise, SAP, or similar systems.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities effectively.
Other Requirements:
- Fluency in English; additional languages are a plus.
- Ability to travel occasionally as required.
- Valid certifications in Dangerous Goods Handling (IATA) and/or Export Compliance (preferred).
