Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Environmental Compliance Manager to oversee and manage environmental compliance, remediation, and support for operating assets and construction projects. This role requires a seasoned professional with a strong understanding of federal and state environmental regulations and a proven ability to manage complex compliance systems and processes.
The ideal candidate will excel at ensuring organizational adherence to environmental standards, enhancing compliance programs, mentoring team members, and representing the company in regulatory discussions.
Key Responsibilities
- Mentorship & Guidance: Support entry-level employees with compliance systems, organizational tools, and procedures.
- Tools & Data Management: Develop and maintain tools/templates to collect, review, and improve compliance data quality and accuracy.
- Inspections & Compliance Oversight: Conduct field inspections, address regulatory applicability, and manage compliance tasks for operations and construction projects.
- Program Enhancements & Audits: Strengthen existing compliance programs based on audit findings and lead internal facility audits.
- Regulatory Engagement: Represent the company on minor regulatory issues and manage regulatory applicability queries.
- Permit Management: Oversee the entire permitting process, ensuring permits are practical and align with compliance risk evaluations.
- Contractor Oversight: Negotiate, evaluate, and manage consultant and contractor services to maintain cost-effectiveness and quality.
- Agency Interactions: Lead during agency inspections and compliance negotiations while defending organizational positions.
- Training & Development: Train new users in compliance systems and create relevant procedures and tools.
Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science, Natural Sciences, Engineering, or a related field. Equivalent experience may be considered.
Experience:
- 6–10 years of experience in environmental compliance roles.
- Experience in managing compliance systems for large and complex projects.
Skills:
- Deep knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental regulations.
- Strong technical writing and data analysis skills.
- Proven ability to interpret complex regulations, prepare permit applications, and develop compliance strategies.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and job-specific software.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
Preferred Attributes:
- Ability to mentor and lead teams effectively.
- Experience negotiating with contractors and managing agency inspections.
- Familiarity with environmental sampling techniques and tools.
