Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced and strategic Director of Logistics with a strong background in food manufacturing, third-party logistics (3PL), and team management. The ideal candidate will oversee the end-to-end logistics operations, ensuring the efficient flow of raw materials, packaging, and finished goods within the supply chain. This role requires a proactive leader who can implement cost-effective solutions, maintain compliance with food safety regulations, and optimize processes to achieve business goals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategic Planning:
- Develop and execute logistics strategies aligned with business objectives and customer requirements.
- Analyze current supply chain operations and implement improvements to optimize efficiency and cost savings.
- Collaborate with senior leadership to forecast demand, manage capacity, and support growth initiatives.
- Team Leadership:
- Lead, mentor, and manage a diverse team of logistics professionals, including warehouse staff, transportation managers, and coordinators.
- Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and safety across all logistics functions.
- Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide training to enhance team capabilities.
- 3PL Management:
- Manage relationships with third-party logistics providers, ensuring adherence to service level agreements (SLAs), performance metrics, and budgets.
- Negotiate contracts and partnerships to drive cost efficiencies and improve service delivery.
- Monitor 3PL performance and implement corrective actions as needed.
- Operational Oversight:
- Oversee warehouse operations, inventory management, and distribution processes to ensure timely and accurate order fulfillment.
- Optimize transportation networks, including route planning and carrier selection, to reduce costs and improve delivery times.
- Ensure compliance with food safety regulations (e.g., FDA, USDA, HACCP) and other industry standards.
- Data Analysis and Reporting:
- Utilize data and analytics to track key performance indicators (KPIs) and drive decision-making.
- Prepare and present reports on logistics performance, cost analysis, and project progress to senior leadership.
- Risk Management:
- Identify and mitigate potential risks within the logistics and supply chain processes.
- Develop contingency plans to address disruptions, such as supply shortages, natural disasters, or transportation delays.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field; MBA preferred.
- Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in logistics, with a focus on food manufacturing and 3PL management.
- Proven leadership experience in managing cross-functional teams.
- Strong knowledge of supply chain systems, inventory management, and ERP software (e.g., SAP, Oracle).
- In-depth understanding of food safety and regulatory compliance requirements.
- Exceptional problem-solving, negotiation, and communication skills.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with Lean or Six Sigma methodologies.
- Familiarity with cold chain logistics and perishable goods handling.
