Title: Construction Estimator

Location: Chicago, IL (or Portland, OR/ Columbus, OH/ Herndon, VA/ Atlanta, GA/ Dallas, TX/ Austin, TX/ Minneapolis, MN) (Hybrid)

Duration: 12 Months

Pay Range: $55 - $60/Hr

Job Description:

• In this role, you'll be responsible for gathering diverse information and data from multiple sources, updating versions, document, templates and processes as part of our preconstruction support team, and executing initiatives and tasks as directed by department leadership.
• This role involves collecting and analyzing construction data, maintaining a comprehensive cost database, reverse-calculating unit prices, benchmarking for future projects, and developing user-friendly benchmarking templates as part of the preconstruction support team.

Must have:

• Must come from GC background - who is an estimator in GC industry (Looking for someone has done hard bid in the past, but now focused on using those information and provide conceptual estimates for future projects)
• Someone has done conceptual estimate.
• Mid-level 5 -10 yrs relevant experience - construction estimator, analyzing data and numbers coming in, reverse calculate unit price, benchmarking for future projects, create templates
• Done some construction ground up projects not just the modeling projects in small residential projects. Looking for large scale ground up projects from foundation, structural, electrical etc
• 4 yrs degree relevant construction PM is fine
• Advanced Excel level - Data analysis in Excel (advanced features like pivot tables, vlookup , and macros, data validations, data conditioning, averages, rates, linking)
• Willing to travel once a month
• Data center Construction experience is a plus - not a deal breaker

Key Qualifications:

• Extensive experience (7+ years) working with a general contractor, with an emphasis on ground-up construction projects.
• Proven ability to develop conceptual estimates based on limited information using historical trade-level cost data.
• Strong proficiency in creating and utilizing unit prices from historical data and preparing Excel templates for internal use.
• A strong desire for continuous learning and growth, with the potential for long-term opportunities at Amazon.

Travel Requirements:

• Occasional domestic and international travel for training, site visits, and team-building activities (approximately 15%).
• Once a month travel à for 2-3 nights visiting data centers.

Basic Qualifications:

• Minimum 5+ years of experience in a general contractor role, specializing in both conceptual and hard bid estimates.
• Proven experience in developing conceptual estimates for ground-up projects with limited information.
• Bachelor’s degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Construction Engineering, or a related field.
• Proficiency in MS Excel and MS Word, with the ability to adapt to new computer systems quickly.
• Self-motivated with the ability to learn and execute tasks independently.
• Excellent interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with various corporate stakeholders.
