Job Title: Audio Mechanical Engineer
Location: Sunnyvale, CA – Onsite
As an Audio Mechanical Engineer, you will become part of a team exploring and developing early ideas, and prototypes to mass-production of consumer electronics. You will work as part of a cross-functional team requiring collaboration and curiosity in the domains of mechanical and electroacoustic engineering.
Our ideal candidate has strong mechanical engineering fundamentals, prototyping skills, CAD fluency, manufacturing process knowledge, and experience designing consumer electronics.
Together with electroacoustic transducer/module/system design engineers, you frame qualitative experiences to quantitative data during deep cross-functional dialogs to balance a given form factor with acoustic performance, reliability, power consumption, and cost.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead complex micro-plastic mechanical solutions of audio micro speaker modules using insert molded steel plates and acoustic meshes
- Model, build, test, and refine prototypes and establish test systems for mechanical validations
- Work across the full product development cycle, from concept inception to shipping high-volume products
- Leverage external teams (CM/JDM/Vendors) to maximize the focus of our internal resources on adding value and differentiation to our products
- Push state-of-the-art technologies and approaches to solving complex mechanical problems
- Make demo hardware and test fixtures
- Travel to external vendors up to 15%
Minimum Qualifications
- BS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience
- 4+ years of product design and development experience of micro-speakers in high-volume consumer electronics
- Experience in Design for Manufacturability (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), statistical tolerance analysis techniques, functional dimensioning, geometric tolerancing, and 3D/2D CAD
- Working knowledge of material properties, such as plastics, metal, adhesive, glass, etc.
- Testing and analysis experience (Design of Experiments, mold flow, etc.)
- Knowledge of high-volume manufacturing techniques (stamping, machining, injection molding, etc.)
Preferred Qualifications
- MS or PhD in Mechanical Engineering or related field
- Experience with NX CAD
- Experience with products requiring cosmetic surface treatments and interfacing with industrial design teams
- Experience with Asian vendors cross-functional communication.
