Position Summary
The LCHC Spiritual Care Director leads organizational efforts to carry out and remain true to LCHC's Christ-centered mission. The director helps shape and is responsible to implement strategies to fulfill the faith-based aspects and purpose of the mission and ensure integration of the mission throughout all of LCHC's programs. The base salary range is $78,000 - $87,000 annually. Compensation will depend on a number of factors, including a candidates qualifications, skills, competencies and years of experience. Core aspects include:
  • Staff Wellness: a pastoral responsibility to support and care for the spiritual wellness of providers and staff,
  • Leadership for Faith Integration: a missional responsibility to support, inspire, and equip staff to carry out the mission in their roles and within the context of the care team.
  • Faith Leadership: a leadership responsibility over the Faith Committee to integrate the mission throughout all of LCHC's programs and work to implement these strategies for the furtherance of the mission.
  • Spiritual Care Program Development and Implementation: a ministry development responsibility to develop and implement programs that directly focus on the spiritual care and growth/development of our patients. The Spiritual Care director leads in developing and working to maintain effective partnerships with key local pastors and churches toward this end.
Principle Duties and Responsibilities
Staff Wellness
  • Supports Provider and Staff Wellness
    • Serves on the Provider Wellness Committee and the LCHC People committees. Supports LCHC's CCO's and this committee to support and care for the spiritual wellness of providers and staff.
    • Leads the Spiritual Care Department and team to provide pastoral support to providers/staff in need.
  • Facilitates a culture of prayer for the clinic by and for staff
Leadership for Faith Integration
  • Collaborate with clinic leadership and departmental directors to develop plans for staff discipleship and training in showing and sharing the love of Jesus in their role. Implement training plan to create consistency across roles, care teams, departments, and sites
    • Supports the departmental directors in their leadership role to fulfill the faith integration plan above and to monitor success.
  • Enhance ministry of Care Teams and Departments
    • Identify spiritual leaders on the Care Teams and Departments and develop those leaders.
    • Work with the leaders to identify the ministry strengths of each care team member and to work with the care team leaders to practically utilize these skills and gifts
    • Help the Care team leaders support one another as team members and members of the body of Christ
  • Evaluate curriculum options (e.g. Faith Rx from CMDA for providers) and/or develop curriculum for furthering this agenda.
  • Leads in supporting the culture of Christ-centered mission care through speaking (e.g. Quarterly meeting, Care team meetings, Provider meetings) and writing devotionals (Pulse and Care Team devotionals)
Faith Leadership
  • Leads the Faith Committee to develop strategies, goals, and tactics to integrate the mission throughout all of LCHC's programs, i.e. to support and enhance the spiritual care of patients across all clinical and programmatic areas.
  • Leads on implementation and maintenance of these strategies and tactics.
    • Develops or leads development of intentional curriculum (themes and goals) for care teams monthly devotional (faith/mission) meetings.
    • Identifies and develops patient resources. Works with care and departmental teams to develop plans and resources for patient education with mission and spiritual care woven-in.
    • Facilitates culture of prayer for all decisions, programs, patients, and community.
Spiritual Care Program Development and Implementation
  • Leads the Spiritual Care department to develop and implement programs that directly focus on the spiritual care and growth/development of our patients.
  • Develops strong relationships within the CCHF community and more broadly to identify best practices for Christ-centered spiritual care for patients.
  • Develops and maintains effective partnerships with key local pastors and churches toward this end.
  • Develops and maintains effective partnerships with ministry partners to enhance LCHC's ministry in target areas (defined by Faith Committee), such as: Strengthening Marriages and Families, Parenting, or community violence reduction.
  • Assesses outcomes and effectiveness of spiritual interventions and programs with the intention of ongoing performance and quality improvement
    • Performs annual survey of patients and their experience of spiritual care at LCHC and report to clinic leadership
Time Commitment Required
  • Full time. Hours will be flexible, but will include some evenings and weekends in order to establish relationships with ministry partners and to fulfill the goals of the position.
  • Requires experience and demonstrated abilities for working in a multi-cultural setting. Spanish-speaking fluency a big plus.
  • Ability to strongly embrace and personify the faith-based aspect of the mission of the Lawndale Christian Health Center, centered around showing and sharing the love of Jesus.
    • Has a passion for spiritual growth and formation of staff.
    • Has a desire to help people know Jesus better while simultaneously respecting and honoring the diverse beliefs of patients
  • Ability to encourage, mentor, challenge and motivate individuals and staff to practically live out the LCHC mission on the job.
  • Knowledge and skills in the area of pastoral counseling.
  • Ability to supervise staff.
  • Ability to collaborate and interact with a diverse group of health care professionals, health support service and fitness personnel.
  • Ability to organize, direct, prioritize, and delegate work appropriately.
  • Excellent guest relation skills.
Required Knowledge, Experience, or Licensure/Registration
  • Undergraduate degree required. Preferred Master's degree
  • At least two years practical experience in a ministry related or mental health field.
  • Work in a healthcare setting, e.g. a hospital chaplaincy program, a plus
