Description
This is a full-time grant funded position with funding ending July 31, 2025.
The Nursing Program Retention and Data Specialist is part of a nursing and health science success initiative that enables the college and its Nursing program(s) to engage in the following activities designed to support program performance, student outcomes, strategic decision-making, secure grant funding opportunities, and develop future partnerships with external stakeholders.
The Nursing Program Retention and Data Specialist is a full-time, grant-funded position . This position plays a vital role in utilizing data to help improve student retention, success rates, and overall program effectiveness. A well-suited candidate needs to have data analysis skills to interpret student performance trends, as well as problem-solving and creative thinking skills to develop retention strategies. The individual must be able to work well as part of a dynamic and creative team of nurse educators dedicated to student success.
Examples of Duties
  • Collect and analyze data on student performance and retention trends
  • Utilize data analysis to identify best practices in study skills, matching resources to study needs, and improving testing habits.
  • Assist students with learning in a variety of content areas to include pathophysiology, pharmacology, fundamental nursing knowledge, and other nursing courses as needed.
  • Develop and implement retention programs, workshops, and activities that foster a supportive learning environment
  • Uses strong communication skills and active listening to provide feedback and develop individualized plans for success. Strong assessment skills to identify students' strengths and areas of improvement.
  • Knowledgeable in pre-licensure nursing program learning outcomes.
  • Provide consistent guidance to students that align with course content and outcomes.
  • Provide feedback to faculty for student success. Meet with students on a regular basis to monitor utilization of remediation strategies.
  • Meet and provides academic support with re-entry students.
  • Coach students in test taking skills and in the preparation for all course and standardized exams.
  • Provide coaching in group and 1:1 setting. Maintain documentation of student remediation plans, processes, and success.
  • Preserve lines of communication with program faculty and director including attendance in select faculty meetings.

  • Fulfill all contract provisions
  • Maintain a high level of professionalism as a representative of the college
  • Maintain accurate attendance and scholastic records of students
  • Maintain current knowledge of programs, trends, and new developments in area of expertise.
  • Ensure educational program quality by engaging in continuous improvement through assessment of student learning outcomes.
  • Contribute to the College's Quality Enhancement Plan.

Minimum/Required Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
Current unrestricted license to practice as a registered nurse in North Carolina or licensure in another state with eligibility to obtain a North Carolina license. Also required are two (2) calendar years of full-time clinical experience as a registered nurse and a Bachelor's degree or higher in Nursing, or be currently working towards a graduate degree in nursing. The candidate must earn 45 or more contact hours in principles of adult education, curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation within three (3) years of the start of employment. The graduate degree in Nursing must be completed within five (5) years of hire date. 4) The candidate must demonstrate formal education and maintenance of competencies in simulation and debriefing as required by the North Carolina Board of Nursing.
Preferred Qualifications:
Post-secondary teaching and experience teaching at the prelicensure nursing level, evaluation of outcomes, patient safety, and implementation of innovative clinical-based education and training programs preferred.
