Job Description

Advocacy Manager

NAKASEC (National Korean American Service & Education Consortium) is an Asian American immigrant justice organization advocating for local, state, and federal systemic change. NAKASEC is a network of affiliate grassroots community-based organizations in six states (IL, NY/NJ, PA, TX, and VA) and a national staff. We aim to organize Korean and Asian Americans to achieve social, racial, and economic justice.

What You’ll Do

As the Advocacy Manager, you will lead the development, coordination, and implementation of the NAKASEC network’s policy agenda and support affiliates with local and state-based policy campaigns as needed. NAKASEC’s national policy agenda is created, informed by, and agreed to by its affiliate grassroots bases and ultimately creates systemic change for the most marginalized in the immigrant community. Reporting to the Organizing Director, you will be an integral member of a staff leadership team that co-develops campaign and program strategy and builds resources for NAKASEC and the community we serve.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Develop and implement advocacy agendas, monitor policy developments, and produce policy materials like updates and fact sheets.
  • Facilitate communication with affiliates, community members, and policymakers while building strategic relationships.
  • Represent NAKASEC in coalitions, lead collaborative initiatives, and conduct advocacy training.
  • Recruit, train, evaluate, and support advocacy staff, fellows, and interns.
  • Speak at events, meetings, and conferences, and work with the communications team to amplify advocacy priorities.

To be successful as the Advocacy Manager, you should have:

  • 3+ years in public policy advocacy, with strong analytical and writing skills.
  • Deep understanding of and commitment to Asian American and other marginalized communities, including people of color, women, working class, and LGBTQ+ individuals.
  • Excellent public speaking, writing, and relationship-building abilities.
  • Proven ability to work independently, manage tasks, and collaborate effectively within a team.
  • Willingness to work evenings and weekends and travel.
  • Bilingual in English and an Asian language preferred.

Best-in-Class Benefits and Perks

We value our employees’ time and efforts. Our commitment to your success is enhanced by a competitive compensation of $60,000 - $80,000 annually, depending on experience, and an extensive benefits package including:

  • Comprehensive health coverage: Medical, dental, and vision insurance provided
  • Robust retirement planning: 401(k) plan available with employer matching
  • Financial security: Life and disability insurance for added protection
  • Flexible financial options: Health savings and flexible spending accounts offered
  • Well-being and work-life balance: Paid time off, flexible schedule, and remote work choices provided

Plus, we work to maintain the best environment for our employees, where people can learn and grow with the company. We strive to provide a collaborative, creative environment where everyone feels encouraged to contribute to our processes, decisions, planning, and culture.
