Our client is seeking an Automation Engineering Manager to join their team, specializing in energy, mining, industrial power markets, and integrated bio-energy solutions . The ideal candidate must be detail-oriented, safety-conscious, and committed to delivering high-quality work. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Oversee the development, programming, and implementation of automated systems in the Oil & Gas industry .
- Design, build, test, and implement automated control systems .
- Work closely with engineers and other technical professionals to ensure successful project execution.
- Develop and maintain detailed project schedules for automation activities.
- Coordinate project schedules and plans with clients, vendors, and internal teams.
- Provide status updates to internal leadership and client teams.
- Manage resources responsible for the configuration and testing of software components .
- Develop and maintain automation software standards .
- Gather business requirements , conduct feasibility studies , and prototype solutions.
- Assist in the creation of automation prototypes .
- Oversee all Traditional Energy Systems Group work and critical subcontracted tasks that align with company objectives. This includes: PLC programming, HMI programming, Line control, Electrical device layout, Startup services, Data collection services, Process control services
- Assign and manage work, project hours, component specifications, and resource allocation.
- Determine if external resources (subcontracted labor ) or additional staff are needed and manage contracts/hiring accordingly.
- Provide estimates for person-hours, components, and construction to the Business Development/Marketing Department for work proposals .
- Participate in the Senior Management Committee , working alongside Directors and Presidents to shape corporate policies, personnel decisions, and business development activities.
- Manage engineering project costs, labor hours, and technical content related to Traditional Energy Systems.
- Provide training and development opportunities to team members, ensuring compliance with industry electrical codes and regulations .
- Conduct annual performance reviews for subordinates.
- Ensure all work is conducted safely and in compliance with company policies and safety standards .
- Travel domestically and internationally, ranging from 5% to 20% per year .
- Adhere to the company’s core values , promoting safety, efficiency, and strong relationships with employees.
- Serve as a leader and liaison between the company and customers, ensuring contractual obligations are met and resolving issues with urgency and professionalism.
- Oversee the hiring, training, and development of new employees, ensuring they meet the organization’s standards.
- Address employee issues and policy violations , escalating matters when necessary and administering disciplinary actions with HR support.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, regulatory requirements, and industry standards .
- Act as the primary point of contact for the automation team, addressing technical issues and troubleshooting effectively to prevent delays.
- Identify and report safety concerns promptly.
- Foster a positive work environment to support the organization’s goals.
- Exhibit strong time management, professional conduct, and adaptability to change.
- Maintain effective communication and collaboration with co-workers, clients, vendors, and business contacts .
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
- Create, modify, and debug PLC, HMI, and Data Management software code .
- Assist in the installation and start-up of automation systems.
- Perform functional checkout procedures on assembled projects.
- Support electrical/systems engineers with design and programming tasks as needed.
- Provide onsite troubleshooting and functional testing assistance.
- Promote a positive and productive work environment .
- Perform additional tasks as assigned by management.
Required Skills, Knowledge, and Experience:
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field is required.
- 7–10 years of experience in electrical design, automation engineering, or a related field .
Technical Expertise:
- Strong understanding of electrical design principles .
- Hands-on experience with:
- PLCs, HMIs, and SCADA systems
- Rockwell ControlLogix, Fisher ROC, ABB TotalFlow, and Omni Flow Computers
- Field experience with onsite installation and start-up of control/automation systems.
- Basic proficiency in AutoCAD (preferred).
