Primary Responsibilities:
- Negotiate and execute charter party terms to support business objectives, adhering to company policies.
- Responsible for creating, maintaining, and using analytical tools to evaluate and structure freight trades (FFA’s and physical).
- Develop and maintain a chartering dashboard to provide the Company with up-to-date visibility of all vessels in use.
- Responsible for advising trading team of potential issues and developing a logistical solution in terms of cost minimization and margin maximization.
- Daily communication with all parties involved, such as commercial ops team/Agents/Vessel/terminals/brokers and report regularly to Company Traders and Management about actual positions, freight markets, trends, and analysis.
- Develop and maintain a database of performance, costs, restrictions, etc. for ports that we use, for future reference.
- Evaluate the suitability and profitability of time charter vessels, vet potential options, and create corresponding charter management strategies.
- Ensure adherence to Chartering Policy in conjunction with shipping operations; safe keeping of chartering contracts in their appropriate folders. Increase awareness and knowledge of different CP terms and conditions and their impact on claims and demurrage.
- Evaluate voyage time and bunker consumption patterns for potential performance claims.
- Assist in the management of the company’s vessel management system (Veson).
- Review and approve shipping invoices as needed.
- Work closely with Middle Office to ensure accurate deal entry into the ETRM (Allegro).
- Perform other duties and projects as assigned.
Job Skills & Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree required, preferably in Marine Transportation, Engineering, Economics, Business Administration, or other energy-related fields.
- Prior maritime experience preferred, or minimum 5 years of experience in a trading environment, having previously handled chartering for liquid hydrocarbons. The candidate should be knowledgeable about demurrage, incoterms, blending and all operational procedures related to vessel management and tank management.
- Strong negotiator and ability to outperform market average.
- Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interface with all levels of management.
- Ability to work independently and without supervision, ensuring deadlines are strictly adhered to.
- Energetic, responsive team player with the interest to take initiative and work in a fast-paced environment.
- High level of confidentiality and professionalism.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail and ability to demonstrate problem-solving skills.
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Teams).
- Ability to work flexible hours when needed; this includes after business hours, weekends, and holidays.
