Job Description

We are looking for a high-performing Engine System Calibration Development Engineer who is responsible for planning developing and executing system level tests in a world class testing and development facility! Tasks also include data analysis calibration development identifying opportunities for data reduction and leading the migration of lab-based activities to math. This is an assignment where creativity initiative and independent judgment are involved and effective cross-organizational teamwork is crucial. What You'll Do Responsibilities - Prepare development engines for testing - ensure both hardware and calibration are test ready - Create Track and Report on calibration testing progress and issues - Support Durability/Validation teams with proven calibrations as appropriate - Develop and execute first-time capable tests for calibration development - Lead diagnosis and resolution of issues that occur during setup and testing - Develop and implement standard work processes and procedures globally - Interact with facilities technical leads calibration teams hardware release engineers and others to improve process and test efficiency - Support math-based activities migrating additional work from Road and Lab to Math based models and data analysis - Train Mentor and develop new engineers


MUST skills

1 - At least 2 years’ experience with engine controls and calibration, must have experience with Bosch controllers and calibration

2 - Familiarity with working in a lab environment (e.g. safety, instrumentation, troubleshooting)

3 - Familiarity with data post processing (e.g. data review, identify good vs. bad data, presenting results effectively)


Required Qualifications -

***MUST HAVE Bosch controller and calibration experience***

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering Electrical Engineering Chemical Engineering Computer Science or Physics
  • Experience with Bosch controllers and calibration is required.
  • 3 years of experience in automotive engineering with engine knowledge
  • Experience with AVL PUMA/IndiCom/CAMEO and ETAS INCA software
  • Exposure to propulsion system calibration in test and vehicle environment
  • Demonstrated Drive for Results - Excellent Planning and Problem-Solving skills
  • High level of oral and written communication skills - High level of interpersonal skills to work independently and effectively with others and ability to establish Peer Relationships. -
  • Ability to prioritize work and resource and work independently with minimal direction
  • Proficient with computer and data acquisition systems
  • Experience in data analysis to optimize testing or model results - Ability to travel as required for offsite testing less than 15 mile
  • Knowledge and 3-5 years experience with Engine testing calibration or hardware development
  • Experience with Engine dyno setup and testing
  • Familiarity with government test cycles e.g. FTP US06 WLTP RDE


Description: Summary:

The main function of a test engineer is to oversee the test development of automotive power electronics and electric traction system components for both fuel cell and hybrid vehicles. A typical test engineer is responsible for monitoring test processes, tracking product changes, and modifying tests and equipment to ensure proper fault coverage.


Job Responsibilities:

• Develop and evaluate test systems for fuel cell and hybrid vehicles electronic subassemblies with focus on power conversion

• Develop and execute test plans to validate software modifications and issues for TECH 2 core software releases.

• Validate software for DSD Vehicle Communications group development.

• Document and communicate any problems/issues identified during validation and verification.

• Use VLT, CAT or other serial data tools to evaluate, diagnose and resolve serial data communication issues.

• Create test equipment electrical design schematics and some mechanical drawings of test systems.

• Create software to automate tests using LabVIEW programming language.

• Create serial data reports and software release memos.

• Complete special assignments as needed relative to TECH 2 support.

• Schedule work, vehicles, and testing around available resources.

• Communicate status of projects in oral presentations and written reports.

• Designs and delivers both automated and manual functional test equipment.

• Provides technical direction for engineering support personnel.

• Attend product development team meetings to review product design, specifications, and schedule requirements.

• Research new technologies and techniques orders.

• Possible local travel.


They will be managing an engine and the engine will be going through different calibrations, coordinating manual tasks or test automation tasks. Working with engine in the dyno cells, some of the testing is more automated on a script. Runs through a procedure on its own. Overseeing the pallet build of the engine, review all hardware, making sure it meets the needs of that engine.


Familiar with various type of instrumentation to make sure the engine is set up correctly for that test that is going to be ran.


Working with a set of technicians that do the physical work, this person will be involved heavily with the build of the engine. Also working with test automation engineers and technicians (cell techs and pallet build techs), working with lab engineers if they are having issues with the systems at the test cell this is who they will work with. Work with vehicle calibration engineers, these are offsite workers. Interfacing lead propulsion engineer. Working with a lot of different people.
