Job Title: Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT)

Location: Chapel Hill, North Carolina

Job Type: Contract

Duration: 13 Weeks

Shift: Monday to Friday, 3:00 PM – 11:00 PM (5x8 shifts)

Position Overview:

Pride Health is seeking a detail-oriented and skilled Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) to join our healthcare team in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. This is a full-time, contract position offering a competitive pay rate and the opportunity to work in a dynamic laboratory setting. The Medical Laboratory Technician will play a crucial role in performing a variety of standardized tests, handling specimens, and ensuring the proper operation of laboratory equipment. This role is ideal for professionals with experience in microbiology and clinical laboratory science who are eager to support laboratory operations, troubleshoot equipment issues, and assist in training and education within the laboratory environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Instructs patients in preparing for tests that require fasting.
  • Answers patient questions regarding the tests.
  • Maintains equipment and investigates problems with equipment.
  • May assist in teaching Clinical Laboratory Science students and Pathology residents and training of new employees.
  • May monitor daily operation of laboratory section or work area.
  • May participate on teams or individually perform special projects/assignments.
  • Performs a variety of routine and standardized tests using standard techniques and equipment.
  • Prepares specimens, resolves specimen problems, and performs analytical tests.
  • Labels and stores specimens.
  • Prepares reagents and assists in the preparation of standard and control materials.
  • Monitors levels of reagents and assists in maintaining supplies.
  • Records results of tests and maintains records.
  • Provides test results, reporting deviations from the norm to supervisor or ordering physician.


Qualifications:

  • Education: Associate’s Degree in Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Laboratory Technician, Chemical Science, or Biological Science.
  • Certifications: ASCP or MLT (AMT) board certification is required.
  • Experience: Previous experience in clinical laboratory testing is preferred, but not required.
  • Skills: Proficiency with gram staining, microbiology systems (Kiestra, WASP), and automated laboratory equipment is essential.
  • Other Requirements: Ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously, troubleshoot lab equipment, and maintain accurate records.
