Primary duties of this clinical position involve the performance of Crisis Intervention, Jail Services Access and Authorization. This position works with law enforcement to provide case consultation, crisis intervention, service coordination, and referrals/linkage to resources for individuals, who were identified as requiring mental health/substance use-related supports. This position functions as a member of a team to carry out the NLCMHA’s clinical, emergency and assessment services. Activities will also include screening of non-emergent requests for service; initial clinical assessment of individual to determine appropriate level of care or provide referral assistance; initial orientation to CMH services; authorization/reauthorization of services to consumers with mental illness or developmental disabilities. This position also requires experience with populations served, familiarity with the wide range of programs and services provided by or purchased by NLCMHA and an ability to match consumers to the appropriate scope and intensity of services required. This position is not responsible for the direct supervision of staff. This position reports to the Operations Manager as assigned. This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities.

*ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:*
* Provide crisis intervention services to police, school and hospital personnel, and community residents dealing with crisis situations. This includes referrals as well as diagnostic assessment and crisis intervention treatment.
* Conduct emergency on-site assessments of clients to determine the need for inpatient psychiatric hospitalization. Provides mobile response to a variety of community settings upon law enforcement’s request/referral, including homes, businesses, shelters, etc.
* Provide essential access system functions, including screening, eligibility determination, collection of relevant information for reporting and decision-making purposes, referrals, provision of relevant consumer information and provision of outreach services when necessary.
* Provide new consumer initial orientation to CMH services including Person Centered Planning process.
* Working knowledge of external agencies and providers and ability to assist requestors of service in linking to other providers when there is a need. Follow up with individuals when appropriate.
* Assure that customers with Limited English Proficiency or other special needs have available and receive appropriate assistance with respect to all CMHSP services, including access to and utilization of the PIHP grievance and appeal process.
* Obtain sufficient information from individuals requesting service to determine their apparent eligibility for service including demographics, clinical assessment and diagnosis, level of care determination and referrals.
* Collaborate with consumers (and staff) in assessing their needs, develop treatment goals, objectives, methodologies, timeliness, and evaluate progress toward goals.
* Provide consultation to other community agencies and professionals (police, courts, clergy, etc.) as needed.
* Participation in an on-call rotation schedule may be required after-hours, weekends, or holidays.
* Participate in Quality Assurance case review procedures, including consumer satisfaction.
* Participate actively in staff development activities including unit meetings, supervisory meetings, community meetings, applicable conferences, and review of current literature regarding services.
* Work cooperatively with Law Enforcement, Primary Care Physicians, Local Courts, Family Independence Agencies, Schools, ISD, Substance Abuse and other providers to promote provision of quality community-based services.
* Provide emergency services to jail inmates and other clinical interventions as assigned.
* Participate in jail diversion activity as it relates to emergency services.
* Maintain knowledge of mental health symptomatology, intervention and treatment strategies.
* Other duties as assigned.

*QUALIFICATIONS:*
Credentialed by NLCMHA to provide services in this professional discipline.

*LICENSING or CERTIFICATIONS:*
Must have licensure with the State of Michigan as a licensed professional preferred: Licensed Masters Social Worker, Licensed Professional Counselor or Psychologist preferred. Limited Licensed Masters Social Worker, Limited Licensed Professional Counselor, and Limited Licensed Psychologist will be considered. Must maintain licensure.

*MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:*
* Must have a master’s degree in social work, psychology, or counseling from an accredited university.
* Two (2) years’ experience in the mental health field with experience in working with individuals with severe and persistent mental illness and individuals with Developmental Disabilities.
* A bachelor’s degree in social work or a licensed RN will be considered.

*WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:*
* This position may require irregular hours.
* This position may require travel by personal vehicle if an agency vehicle is not available.
