Job Details We’re seeking an experienced Controller to take the reins of our financial operations. This role requires a leader who understands both the numbers and the bigger picture—someone who can align accounting processes with business strategy while fostering a culture of teamwork and operational efficiency. Construction industry experience is highly valued, but the ability to collaborate effectively and provide insightful financial leadership is just as important.
What You'll Do
- Oversee all financial operations, including accounts payable, receivable, payroll, and financial reporting
- Ensure compliance with licensing, tax requirements, and contract obligations
- Review project cost reports and financial schedules to support strategic decision-making
- Manage banking relationships, cash flow, and company accounts
- Provide financial insights and forecasting to executive leadership, including work-in-progress (WIP) reports and other key financial analyses
- Ensure accurate and timely payroll tax filings, as well as sales tax reporting and compliance
- Lead the year-end financial closeout and annual budget planning process
- Advise and support the team on cost allocations, job coding accuracy, and general ledger management
- Oversee credit applications and financial risk assessments
- Work closely with HR and Operations on insurance and compliance matters
- Lead and mentor the accounting team, driving process improvements and efficiency
What You Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- 7-10+ years of experience in accounting, preferably in a construction or project-based environment
- Strong understanding of GAAP principles (CPA preferred but not required)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, Word, etc.)
- Experience with Sage or other construction accounting software is a plus
- Proven ability to analyze financial data, communicate insights, and collaborate with leadership
