The American Association of Independent Music (A2IM) is a not-for-profit 501(c)(6) trade organization representing independently owned recorded music companies. A2IM serves as a central voice for a diverse community of independent labels, focusing on government advocacy, education, and creating community and business opportunities. The organization was created around its core label membership, which today includes more than 500 record labels. A2IM also represents independent artists with an Artist Member membership category and has a long-standing community of nearly 200 associate members in related music businesses.Position SummaryA2IM seeks its next CEO to set strategy and lead core services including advocacy, events, education, and community. The CEO will create and realize a vision that ensures a viable ecosystem for independent recorded music labels to navigate and thrive in an ever-changing landscape. The position is based in New York, NY, requires national and international travel, and reports to A2IM’s board of directors.Specific ResponsibilitiesRepresent the collective voice of the core independent label membership, while anticipating the needs of and gathering input from the entire member community.Events, Education & CommunityEnsure effective programming that meets the needs of label members and supports the independent label community.Empower independents with education, networking, and resources.Leverage the collective scale of independents to compete with major labels.Provide resources for the development of practitioners and leaders in the independent music ecosystem.Expand the A2IM Mentoring program and develop other solutions.AdvocacyBe a leading expert on trends impacting independents.Propose solutions and build coalitions for advocacy.Lead discussions with lawmakers on copyright legislation.Engage members in A2IM's advocacy efforts.Lead industry discussions and select/manage outside experts as needed.Uphold compliance with anti-trust regulations.MembershipAttract and retain members by providing valuable services.Deliver educational and networking opportunities for member companies.Create initiatives that ensure A2IM’s diverse membership feels welcomed and empowered.Industry RelationsPartner with music industry organizations to defend the interests of A2IM’s members.Collaborate with associate members for a mutually beneficial ecosystem.Represent independent recorded rights holders in discussions with industry leaders.Organizational LeadershipInspire and empower a diverse, high-performing team.Manage revenue streams and full P&L.Nurture A2IM’s positive culture and invest in team development.Qualifications15+ years of leadership experience in the recorded music industry.Proven ability to lead an organization adding value to the independent music industry.Understanding of trends affecting the independent music industry.Advanced knowledge of the music ecosystem, copyright law, and technology.Ability to anticipate impacts of policy and technology changes.Strong communication and facilitation skills.P&L experience in a growing entity.Commitment to independent labels and recorded music rights holders.CompensationCompetitive salary, incentive, and benefits will be offered, with a base salary anticipated in the range of $200K to $300K.ContactInterested candidates are encouraged to apply directly to this posting.
