Ultrasonographer - Laurel, MD

$62,400 - $135,000 / Per Year DOE

Job Type: Full-Time

Job Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Ultrasonographer to join our healthcare team in Laurel, Maryland. The ideal candidate will perform a wide range of ultrasound procedures, ensuring accurate diagnostic images and delivering excellent patient care. This position requires technical proficiency, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Patient Care:

    • Prepare patients for ultrasound examinations by explaining procedures, answering questions, and ensuring their comfort.
    • Obtain and document relevant patient history and information pertinent to the ultrasound examination.
    • Provide empathetic care throughout the imaging process, maintaining patient privacy and dignity.
  • Imaging Procedures:

    • Perform various ultrasound examinations, including but not limited to abdominal, obstetric, gynecologic, vascular, and small parts imaging.
    • Operate ultrasound equipment to produce high-quality diagnostic images for interpretation by radiologists.
    • Adjust equipment settings as necessary based on the specific examination and patient anatomy.
  • Image Analysis and Reporting:

    • Review and analyze ultrasound images to ensure clarity, accuracy, and proper documentation.
    • Communicate preliminary findings to radiologists and collaborate on final image interpretation when required.
    • Maintain accurate and detailed records of all procedures performed, including images and patient information.
  • Safety and Compliance:

    • Adhere to established safety protocols to protect patients, staff, and self from potential risks.
    • Ensure compliance with all relevant regulatory standards, including those related to patient confidentiality and infection control.
    • Maintain ultrasound equipment in good working order, ensuring proper cleaning and routine maintenance.
  • Team Collaboration:

    • Work closely with physicians, radiologists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated patient care.
    • Participate in departmental meetings, quality improvement initiatives, and ongoing education and training opportunities.
    • Mentor and provide support to less experienced staff and students as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Education:

    • Associate's degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography.
    • Completion of an accredited ultrasound technology program.
  • Licensure/Certification:

    • Active certification with the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) in one or more specialties (e.g., Abdomen, OB/GYN, Vascular).
    • State licensure in Maryland or eligibility to obtain licensure.
  • Experience:

    • 1-2 years of experience as an Ultrasonographer is preferred, but we are willing to work with you straight out of school based on your capabilities.
    • Must demonstrate proficiency prior to being hired.
  • Skills:

    • Proficient in the operation of ultrasound equipment and technology.
    • Strong understanding of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
    • High attention to detail and strong problem-solving abilities.

Working Conditions:

  • Ability to stand for extended periods and assist with patient positioning and movement.
  • May be required to work evenings, weekends, or holidays depending on department needs.
  • Exposure to potentially infectious materials, with strict adherence to safety protocols required.
