Position Title: Assistant Mechanical Superintendent Reports To: Mechanical/Machinist Superintendentnn**Position Summary: PSI is the largest privately owned shipyard in Hawaii, with two of the largest dry docks in the state. We have been in business since 1944 and have a large labor force of skilled craftsman with a full support staff of professionals who comprise of engineering, project management, QA, EHS, accounting, contracts, and human resources.nnAssists Mechanical/Machinist Superintendent in supervising approximately 15-20 machinists and mechanics work in support of ship repair and product fabrication. This includes but is not limited to: repair of mechanical components, manufacture and repair of components by machining, fabricating components with CNC cutters, mills, lathes, disassembly/reassembly of various shipboard machinery/equipment, and installation/re-installation of shipboard machinery/equipment. Under direction and in collaboration with the Superintendent, supervises union ship workers engaged in mechanical and machinist duties ensuring accomplishment of assigned work on time and within budget. Enforces safety and environmental regulations. The assistant superintendent generates job assignments and communicates to subordinate employees, makes recommendations to the superintendent on matters related to hiring, termination, suspension, advancement, promotion, demotion, discipline, addresses or adjust employee grievances and other supervisory duties as required. In the absence of the Superintendent, will assume duties and responsibilities as directed by the Production Manager.**nnPacific Shipyards International, LLC. Evening, weekend, and holiday work will be required based on the needs of the business.nMinimum five (5) years of ship repair or marine industry experience preferrednExtensive knowledge of ship repair processes.nKnowledge of managing Federal ContractsnProficient with MS Office programs: Word, Excel, and Outlook and various office toolsnBlueprint and schematic reading/interpretationnMechanical backgroun , machining/milling, rigging, hand tools, etc., requirednMarine machinist/mechanic background desirednExperience with equipment alignment, valve and pump repair, hydraulic systems and troubleshooting, and shipboard systems is a plus.nAbility to plan work according to current and projected needs.nKnowledge of and experience with commercial and military marine/ship standards and specifications.nShipyard/Industrial Experience valuablennDescription of Work Environment:nnWork in heavy industrial/shipyard setting with exposure to heat, cold, and humidity, industrial odors, fumes, gasses, chemicals, oil, grease, smoke, dust, noise, and vibration, and involves climbing ladders and stairs, using pneumatic tools, working in cramped quarters, and working with moving machinery.nProtective Equipment (PPE) required for this position, including hearing protection, safety glasses, safety boots with metatarsal guards, face shield, welding helmet, welding gloves, welding sleeves/jacket (leather or cloth), and welding apron/chaps. A respirator may also be required.nnQualification/Requirements:nnMust show proof of your legal right to work in the United StatesnnThis position requires US Citizenship due to clearance required for base accessnnMust be able to successfully obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC)nn(){style="nn"}
