The Engineering Director for Product Development & Testing will lead a cross-functional team responsible for the design, development, testing, and manufacturing of wire and cable products. This role will oversee a team of ten engineers and technical professionals, ensuring the successful execution of new product initiatives, optimization of existing product lines, and adherence to industry standards and regulatory requirements. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in product development, testing methodologies, manufacturing engineering, and compliance within the industrial wire and cable industry.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Leadership & Team Management:

• Lead and mentor a team of ten engineers and technical specialists, fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment.
• Develop and implement team goals, performance metrics, and professional development plans for direct reports.
• Drive cross-functional collaboration between product development, testing, manufacturing, and compliance teams.

Product Development & Innovation:

• Oversee the end-to-end product development process, from concept to commercialization, for new wire and cable products.
• Lead the team in researching and developing innovative products that meet market demands and regulatory standards.
• Collaborate with R&D, marketing, and sales teams to identify new product opportunities and enhance existing product offerings.

Product Testing & Quality Assurance:

• Direct the development and execution of comprehensive product testing strategies, ensuring all products meet or exceed internal performance standards and industry certifications (e.g., UL, CSA, IEC, etc.).
• Ensure that testing procedures and protocols are followed rigorously to validate product quality, safety, and compliance.
• Address product issues and provide root-cause analysis for any failures or performance concerns, driving continuous improvement.

Manufacturing Engineering & Process Optimization:

• Partner with manufacturing engineering teams to optimize production processes, ensuring high-quality and cost-effective product outputs.
• Oversee the development and implementation of product-specific manufacturing documentation, including specifications, assembly instructions, and quality control standards.
• Ensure smooth transition from product development to full-scale production, including product testing, validation, and process optimization.

Compliance & Regulatory Affairs:

• Stay current on industry regulations, standards, and best practices in the wire and cable sector, ensuring all products meet relevant certifications and compliance requirements.
• Lead efforts to prepare for and manage third-party audits, product certifications, and quality inspections.
• Ensure products meet or exceed environmental and safety standards, including RoHS, REACH, and other regulatory frameworks.

Continuous Improvement & Innovation:

• Drive a culture of continuous improvement through process innovation, technology upgrades, and best practices in product development and testing.
• Analyze product performance and market feedback to recommend product enhancements or improvements.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field.

Experience:

• At least 10 years of experience in product development, engineering management, or technical leadership within the industrial wire and cable industry.
• Proven experience leading cross-functional teams, managing product development cycles, and executing on complex engineering projects.
• Deep understanding of wire and cable manufacturing processes, materials science, and relevant industry standards.

Technical Expertise:

• Strong knowledge of wire and cable testing methodologies, including electrical, mechanical, and environmental testing.
• Familiarity with industry certifications (UL, CSA, IEC) and regulatory requirements related to wire and cable products.
• Experience with manufacturing engineering, process optimization, and cost management in a high-volume production environment.

Leadership Skills:

• Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and motivate a team of engineers and technical professionals.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills to work effectively with internal teams and external stakeholders.
• Ability to balance strategic thinking with hands-on technical leadership.

Project Management:

• Experience managing product development projects, including timelines, resources, budgets, and risk mitigation.
• Familiarity with project management tools and techniques, such as Agile, Six Sigma, or Lean.
