Project Manager - Capacity Management (Data Center Operations)

Centennial, CO

Our telecommunications client in the Denver area is seeking a proactive and results-driven Project Manager to join their Capacity Management team for Data Center Operations. This role focuses on optimizing resources within data centers by identifying underutilized assets, such as physical and virtual servers, and recommending repurposing, decommissioning, or right-sizing solutions. You will play a critical role in reducing power usage, reclaiming resources, and addressing abandoned hardware and applications resulting from organizational mergers.

This is a highly collaborative position requiring 70% project management expertise and 30% technical understanding.

Responsibilities:

  • Asset and Capacity Management:
  • Engage with business and application owners to assess server usage.
  • Identify opportunities to decommission, repurpose, or redesign servers.
  • Address abandoned hardware and applications with a focus on remediation and optimization.
  • Project Oversight:
  • Create and maintain dashboards to showcase resource utilization and track progress.
  • Define project scope, set deadlines, assign tasks, and monitor progress to ensure timely delivery.
  • Prepare reports and presentations for stakeholders and upper management.
  • Stakeholder Engagement:
  • Communicate effectively with IT delivery teams, application owners, and business units.
  • Act as a liaison to align project goals with organizational strategy and objectives.
  • Process Improvement:
  • Analyze current data center operations and identify inefficiencies in resource allocation.
  • Collaborate with teams to recommend best practices for right-sizing virtual environments.

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of IT project management experience, preferably with a background in data center operations.
  • Familiarity with server remediation, operating systems, and database management.
  • Technical Understanding:
  • Knowledge of data center environments, asset management tools, and server lifecycle management.
  • Experience with ticketing systems (Cherwell or Avanti preferred) and asset management tools.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Proactive problem-solving and critical thinking capabilities.
  • Proficient in project management tools (e.g., MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio).
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred, or equivalent experience.
  • Certifications such as PMP or Six Sigma Green Belt are a plus but not required.

Join a high-impact team focused on reducing costs, improving efficiency, and optimizing data center operations for a leading telecommunications company.
