Position Overview:
The Senior Project Manager (SPM) and Senior Project Manager II (SPM II) will be responsible for overseeing and managing multiple large-scale construction projects within the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) Facilities Services Division. The selected candidates will provide leadership in resolving complex construction-related issues, ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget, and in compliance with all relevant regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage and oversee construction project execution, including monitoring and evaluating project progress.
- Resolve complex construction-related disputes, ensuring compliance with project specifications and contractual obligations.
- Supervise and direct Owner’s Authorized Representatives (OARs) on assigned construction projects.
- Assess project schedules, change orders, and financial impacts to the district.
- Collaborate with Regional Directors and Facilities Management staff on bid and contract planning.
- Evaluate bid specifications for feasibility and alignment with district requirements.
- Oversee financial management, including reviewing applications for payment and ensuring cost control compliance.
- Provide strategic direction on construction project schedules, dispute resolution, contract administration, and quality control.
- Coordinate with internal stakeholders such as Environmental Health & Safety, Design and A/E Technical Support, Asset Management, Facilities Contract Administration, Inspection Unit, and Maintenance & Operations.
- Develop and recommend internal policies and procedures to enhance project efficiency.
- Ensure compliance with Division of the State Architect (DSA) regulations and best practices in sustainable construction.
Minimum Qualifications:
Experience:
- 17 years of full-time paid professional experience in project/construction management.
- 5 years of experience managing large programs with individual project values exceeding $50 million .
- 5 years of experience in educational facility construction, public works, or large commercial projects (including projects outside California).
Preferred Experience:
- Expertise in Design-Build project delivery.
- Experience using Building Information Modeling (BIM) .
- Experience in LEED-certified or Collaborative for High Performing Schools (CHPS) projects.
- Knowledge of DSA construction/design processes.
Education (One of the Following):
- Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, or Construction Management from a recognized institution.
- Bachelor’s degree in any field, with a commitment to obtaining a Certified Construction Manager (CCM) credential within one year of employment.
- 20+ years of Construction/Project Management experience with a commitment to obtaining a CCM credential within one year .
- Possession of a valid CCM credential at the time of application (may substitute for educational requirements).
Preferred Licenses and Certifications:
- Certified Construction Manager (CCM) credential.
- Registered Architect (California Architectural Board) or Professional Engineer (California State Board for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors).
