Position Title: Special Education Elementary School Teacher Location: Southampton County Public Schools

Job Summary: The Special Education Elementary School Teacher is responsible for providing specialized instruction to students with disabilities in an inclusive and supportive learning environment. This role involves developing and implementing individualized education programs (IEPs), collaborating with teachers, parents, and other professionals, and ensuring that each student's unique needs are met to promote academic and social success.
Key Responsibilities: - Instructional Planning and Delivery:
- Develop and implement individualized education programs (IEPs) for students with disabilities.
- Adapt and modify the general education curriculum to meet the needs of students with varying abilities.
- Use a variety of instructional strategies and techniques to enhance learning and accommodate individual learning styles.
- Classroom Management:
- Create a positive, structured, and supportive classroom environment.
- Implement behavior management plans and strategies to address specific student needs.
- Foster a classroom atmosphere that encourages respect, inclusivity, and positive social interactions.
- Assessment and Evaluation:
- Conduct assessments to determine students' academic, social, and behavioral needs.
- Monitor and track students' progress towards IEP goals and objectives.
- Provide regular feedback and communicate progress to students, parents, and administrators.
- Collaboration:
- Work collaboratively with general education teachers, paraprofessionals, and other support staff to plan and implement effective instruction.
- Participate in IEP meetings, parent-teacher conferences, and other relevant meetings.
- Serve as a resource and advocate for students with disabilities, ensuring they have access to appropriate services and accommodations.
- Professional Development:
- Stay current with best practices in special education and instructional methodologies.
- Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge.
- Share expertise and collaborate with colleagues to improve instructional practices.
- Parent and Community Engagement:
- Communicate regularly with parents about their child's progress, needs, and successes.
- Provide resources and strategies for parents to support learning at home.
- Engage with the community to promote understanding and support for students with disabilities.
- Documentation and Compliance:
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student progress, assessments, and IEPs.
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local special education laws and regulations.
- Complete required reports and documentation in a timely and thorough manner.
Qualifications: - Bachelor's degree in Special Education or a related field.
- Valid state certification in Special Education.
- Previous experience teaching students with disabilities preferred.
- Strong knowledge of special education laws, regulations, and best practices.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, parents, and students.
- Proficiency in the use of technology for instructional and administrative purposes.
Physical Requirements: - Ability to sit, stand, and move freely for extended periods.
- Capacity to lift and move educational materials and equipment as necessary.
- Ability to supervise and interact with students in a variety of settings.
Work Environment: - Work is performed in a classroom setting and may require traveling between classrooms and schools.
- Occasional evening and weekend work may be required for school events and meetings.
