Hi Everyone, we are excited to be looking for a Underwriter or Senior Underwriter to join our client's expanding team across Canada. In this role, you will be responsible for underwriting and driving the profitable growth of our client's construction business in the Canadian market. The successful candidate will also play a key role in coaching, mentoring, and training team members to support their ongoing professional development. Additionally, you will manage relationships with select brokers and clients to ensure continued success in this area.
Key Responsibilities:
- Underwrite and negotiate policy terms for new first-party construction business, offering mentorship to other underwriters as needed.
- Strengthen and maintain relationships with brokers and clients, contributing to the growth of construction products through sales calls, client meetings, and representing the company at industry events.
- Continuously develop and expand knowledge in first-party product lines and claims trends, recommending improvements when applicable.
- Collaborate with other business units to identify cross-marketing opportunities and enhance business development strategies.
- Build a reputation as a “go-to” insurer for target brokers through exceptional service and strong underwriting expertise.
- Work closely with the Construction Practice Leader and management to ensure alignment with underwriting protocols and product strategies.
Required Qualifications and Skills:
- A minimum of 2 years of experience in the insurance industry, with a focus on construction and/or energy property underwriting.
- University degree in business, engineering, or applied science is considered an asset.
- Self-motivated with strong analytical skills and a proven track record of adopting a solutions-driven approach to underwriting that supports profitable growth.
- Experience working within established guidelines, underwriting authorities, and protocols.
- Proven experience in building and maintaining relationships with global, national, and regional brokers.
- Ability to identify and capitalize on portfolio rollover opportunities, market segmentation, and targeting key accounts.
