Job Overview
Vac-Con, Inc., as a major supplier of Combination Sewer Cleaners and Vacuum Excavation manchines, is a leader and innovator in the industry that it serves. Our Engineering, Product Improvement and Product Development personnel are critical in the success of the company.
This position will interact with all facets of the organization from Sales and Production Engineering to Manufacturing and Quality Assurance in the scoping and development of solutions for both short term and long term projects. The successful candidate will utilize their knowledge of Mechanical Engineering and Structural Analysis in the design of solutions for the company.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Lead projects associated with new product development
- Work with Production Engineering and Product Development personnel in readying new designs for production
- Monitor and analyze mechanical devices and systems utilized on our products
- Lead design changes, cost reductions and warranty improvements
- Design, maintain, implement or improve mechanical designs and systems for use with our product line always keeping in mind the needs of both internal and external customers
- Work with Manufacturing to ensure manufacturability of new designs through prototyping, fixturing and incorporating feedback from Manufacturing into the design
- Ensure compliance with specifications, codes or customer requirements
- Perfom Structural analysis of designs to ensure proper performance
- Estimate material and labor costs for measuring status of design to cost targets as well as budget preparation
Qualifications
- Bachelor degree in Mechanical engineering from an accredited school
- 5 years’ experience with preferably 2 of them in a product improvement or mobile equipment environment
- Knowledge or experience in Vacuum or air flow systems a plus
- Experience in Finite element analysis (FEA) and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) a plus
- Experienced in using AutoDesk products to create 2-D and 3-D designs to run simulations, analyze and test results
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills a necessity as is the ability to thrive in a fast paced and dynamic environment
- Must be a self starter, equally comfortable in working individually or as part of a cross functional team
- Must be physically able to work in a manufacturing environment where lifting parts, climbing ladders and performing duties in a safe manner are necessary
