Russell Tobin is seeking a Chemist – Blending & Beverage Technology for a British multinational alcoholic beverage company.


Job Title: Chemist – Blending & Beverage Technology

Location: Plainfield, IL (on-site)

Job Type: Contract

Length: 6-Months

Hours: 40 hours/week, 8 hours/day

Pay Rate: $28.00 - $33.10 per hour


Context / Scope :

Technical plays a key role in achieving Supply’s goal to become a Best in Class CPG Company. The NA Science and Technology function delivers technological advancements, drives breakthrough research, and protects brand reputation by leveraging expertise in Rum, NA Whiskies, Formulated Products and Liquid Ingredients. Within the NA Technical Center and Blending & Beverage Technology group, this role establishes critical product standards to safeguard the technical equity of our core brands, and provides expertise in ingredient and formula chemistry, enabling delivery of our NA Innovation and Optimization pipelines.

Purpose of Role:

The purpose of the role is to protect, strengthen, and grow the reputation of our core brands, and enable growth through Innovation. This will be done by ensuring the Liquid Quality of Company’s brands through analysis, data interpretation, and analytical insights, by leveraging functional expertise to solve critical problems, and by verifying performance of our global manufacturing sites against our high standards.

Market Complexity:

As part of the end-to-end supply chain, NA Supply has an extensive network of wholly owned and Third-Party Operation sites across the US and Canada. In North America, Company owns and operates a network of manufacturing, bottling, distilling, and warehousing sites. NA Technical is an organization of 100+ people with a $23M budget, operating across several locations within the US and Canada. From these locations NA Technical manages the liquid technology and quality for Company NA Supply and Demand across the Company portfolio, and for our core North American brands globally.


TOP ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Perform laboratory chemical analyses according to SOP, generate reliable and accurate data, and interpret results for all typical beverage chemical analysis methods (e.g. for pH, color, turbidity, ABV, etc.), and for some advanced methods (e.g. gas chromatography, HPLC, etc.)
  • Determine correct application of laboratory methods to generate new insights for ingredients and formulas in development, or to solve problems in support investigations.
  • Improve existing laboratory methods and Standard Operating Procedures, and assist with developing new methods as needed.
  • Leverage knowledge of liquid manufacturing systems, processes, and technical analysis to review and approve raw ingredient specifications.
  • Carry out World Wide Compliance Audit Sampling and Assurance Programs to verify liquid performance of our global manufacturing sites against our standards.
  • Collaborate with Company’s internal and third-party manufacturing sites to establish new analytical capabilities, provide personnel training, and facilitate onboarding of new facilities.
  • Provide lab batching, analytical testing/training, and RCPS support as needed to assist in delivering overall NA Technical initiatives.
  • Builds strong relationships and networks to maximize Company value, working across the global supply and regulatory communities, and with internal/external partners to strengthen the equity of our products and Company’s reputation.


Functional & Career Experience Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Applied or Natural Sciences (chemistry, food science, chemical engineering, distillation/brewing)
  • Minimum of 3-4 years of relevant work experience within the Food & Beverage industry or ISO-certified laboratories.Demonstrated technical depth in chemistry / liquid science, and excellent attention to detail.
  • The individual displays confidence and adaptability in their approach, a desire to make a positive impact, and resilience in dealing with challenges.
  • Strong time-management skills, and experience managing multiple priorities effectively
  • Demonstrated ability to work in dynamic cross-functional teams, communicate proactively, and effectively manage stakeholders.
