Job Description Summary:nnSurgical Technologist Internship Program – 2025nnLogan Health is seeking two dedicated and motivated students for our Surgical Technologist Internship Program for 2025. This program is designed for students from Missoula College, Great Falls College, and Flathead Valley Community College (FVCC) who are entering their final semester of surgical technology training.nnLocation: Logan Health Medical Center, Kalispell, MTnnApplication Information:nnApplication Window: Open now through Friday, November 22, 2024nnInterviews: Scheduled for the weeks of November 25 and December 2, 2024nnKey Responsibilities:nnComplete clinical rotations as a Surgical Technologist intern from January through May 2025.nnParticipate in 24 hours per week of hands-on scrub tech training within the operating room.nnDedicate 8 hours per week to department training, including Central Sterile, core technician roles, perioperative support technician training, and overall hospital orientation.nnCompensation and Benefits:nnPay Rate: $19/hour for a total of 32 hours per week.nnEmployment Commitment: Accepted interns will commit to a 2-year employment agreement with Logan Health.nnTransition to Full-Time: Successful completion of the internship will lead to a full-time Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) position in the operating room.nnSign-On Bonuses: Eligible for sign-on bonuses at the end of year 1 and year 2 of employment.nnQualifications:nnEnrollment in a Surgical Technology program at an accredited institution (Missoula College, Great Falls College, or FVCC).nnStrong interest in surgical technology and a commitment to patient care.nnAbility to work collaboratively in a fast-paced healthcare environment.nnHow to Apply: To apply for the Surgical Technologist Internship Program, please complete the application by November 22, 2024.nnQualifications:nnMinimum of one (1) year of college required.nnMinimum of one (1) of the following required:nnMust be currently enrolled in a nationally accredited surgical technology program.nnCurrently enrolled in an accredited surgical technology program (CAAHEP or ARC/STSA).nnHealthcare experience preferred.nnMust possess a desire to gain professional experience within the related field of assignment.nnExcellent organizational skills, detail-oriented, a self-starter, possess critical thinking skills and be able to set priorities and function as part of a team as well as independently.nnCommitment to working in a team environment and maintaining confidentiality as needed.nnExcellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to communicate effectively with various audiences.nnExcellent interpersonal skills with the ability to manage sensitive and confidential situations with tact, professionalism, and diplomacy.nnPossess and maintain computer skills to include working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and ability to learn other software as needed.nnJob Specific Duties:nnWorks in a professional manner and utilizes excellent customer service in all interactions.nnSeeks assistance as appropriate for the task assigned.nnUtilizes professional judgment handling situations while consistently maintaining privacy and confidentiality.nnExhibits effective and professional communication skills, both verbal and written.nnUnder the direction and support of a preceptor, the employee:nnParticipates in the planning process for surgical procedures.nnAccurately selects all equipment and supplies needed for surgical cases.nnAccurately sets up sterile table with instruments, supplies, equipment, and solutions as needed for procedure.nnUtilizes proper application of the aseptic technique when opening surgical supplies to the sterile field, and while organizing the sterile supplies and equipment for procedures.nnEvaluates all instrumentation and technical equipment to assure it is in proper and safe working condition. Communicates faulty or broken instruments to Sterile Processing.nnProperly utilizes surgical instruments to assist the surgeon during the procedure.nnParticipates in counts prior to, during and the end of a procedure per department procedures.nnProvides care to the patient in the application of dressings and while transferring the patient to the recovery area.nnChecks assigned specialty non-stock and stock supplies to ensure an adequate quantity is available for procedures per department protocol.nnCollaborates with stakeholders in maintaining and updating the preference cards/pick lists.nnPerforms administrative duties, advises leadership of status changes, and works collaboratively in a team environment.nnExhibits knowledge of medications used during the intra-operative period.nnAnticipates the surgeon’s needs and reacts accordingly. Efficiently passes the appropriate instrumentation, sutures and supplies to surgeons and/or assistant.nnAssists as directed in cutting sutures and keeping track of items such as sponges, needles, etc.nnAssists with the preparation and disposal of lab specimens as directed. Assists team members with cleaning of room.nnThe above essential functions are representative of major duties of positions in this job classification.
