Kiki on the River is a vibrant and upscale restaurant located in the heart of Miami. We seek a passionate and dedicated Sommelier to join our team and help elevate our wine program to new heights.
Position Summary The Sommelier will work closely with our Wine Director, supporting the overall vision for our wine program and contributing to an elevated guest experience. This role is perfect for an individual with a strong foundation in restaurant service and a deep passion for wine. We are looking for someone eager to learn and grow in their career rather than a seasoned veteran.
Key Responsibilities Wine Service & Guest Experience:
- Provide knowledgeable recommendations to guests, ensuring each patron receives personalized and exceptional service.
- Conduct tableside wine service, including decanting and proper wine handling.
- Collaborate with the service team to ensure seamless food and beverage pairings.
Wine Program Support:
- Assist the Wine Director with curating the wine list, including sourcing and inventory management.
- Support the development and maintenance of staff training materials and programs.
- Maintain proper storage, organization, and rotation of wine stock.
Staff Training & Education:
- Work alongside the Wine Director to train servers and bartenders on wine knowledge, service standards, and pairing techniques.
- Conduct periodic tastings and educational seminars for the team.
Sales & Upselling:
- Actively promote wine selections, limited releases, and pairing opportunities to enhance the guest experience and meet sales goals.
- Maintain an approachable demeanor to encourage guests to explore new offerings.
Collaboration & Teamwork:
- Work closely with the culinary team to stay updated on menu changes and seasonal specials.
- Collaborate with bartenders and other team members to ensure consistency and excellence in beverage service.
Qualifications & Requirements Restaurant Experience:
- A minimum of 4 years of experience as a server or captain in a high-volume, upscale restaurant environment.
- 1–2 years of experience as a Sommelier is preferred, but candidates with a demonstrated passion and knowledge of wine will be considered.
Wine Knowledge:
- A solid foundation of wine regions, varietals, and service techniques; formal certification (e.g., Court of Master Sommeliers, WSET) is a plus.
- Interest in further developing wine expertise and knowledge.
Additional Skills:
- Bartending experience is a plus.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to multitask effectively and remain calm under pressure.
- Strong sense of hospitality and commitment to guest satisfaction.
