Job Title: Director of Battery Systems

Location: On-site | Irvine, CA (Orange County/LA area)

About the Role:

As the company nears the release of the their newest commercial SUV release, they are optimizing their Battery Systems team for efficiency and innovation. This role is pivotal in aligning and integrating their three verticals—battery chemistry, mechanical engineering (modules/packs), and high-voltage systems—into a cohesive, high-performing unit.

The Director will manage a small/medium team across functional and electrical disciplines, focusing on high-voltage architecture and propulsion systems. This role is for an experienced leader who understands the physics and technical intricacies of high-voltage systems and components.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the alignment of battery engineering teams: chemistry, mechanical, and high-voltage systems.
  • Drive efficiency by identifying and addressing gaps in module and pack mechanical engineering.
  • Oversee the design and integration of high-voltage systems (cell to loads) for advanced mobility platforms.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless vertical integration and optimal team performance.
  • Provide technical leadership on critical high-voltage components: pyro fuses, fusing, contactors, arc flash/blast calculations.
  • Implement systems and processes that streamline operations and support product release goals.
  • Support a culture of accountability, efficiency, and innovation while navigating organizational change.

Ideal Candidate Profile:

  • Experience: 10+ years in high-voltage systems engineering (energy storage, or advanced vehicle platforms, eVTOL).
  • Technical Expertise: Deep understanding of high-voltage architecture, physics (arc flash/blast), and specialized components (fuses, contactors, electromechanical systems).
  • Leadership: Proven experience leading technical teams (10-20 people) with a focus on systems integration.
  • Preferred Background: Energy storage startups, EV Companies, BESS (e.g. Lucid, Joby, Canoo)
  • Education: Electrical Engineering degree preferred (or related technical field).
