We are seeking a knowledgeable and passionate Sommelier to join our team. The ideal candidate will have expertise in wine, a strong ability to educate both staff and customers, and a passion for creating exceptional dining experiences through wine pairings and service. As a Sommelier, you will play a key role in maintaining the restaurant's wine list, driving wine sales, and fostering strong relationships with both customers and suppliers.
Key Responsibilities and Requirements:
- Wine knowledge Sommeliers are experts in wine, with a deep understanding of different types of wine, wine pairings, and tasting notes. They should be able to quickly recall and share this information.
- Wine list Be able to create and maintain a wine list that's up to date with the latest wines and trends, as well as write wine descriptions.
- Wine sales Sommeliers promote wine sales by educating staff and customers about wine. They also recommend wines based on customer preferences and menu selections.
- Wine tastings Sommeliers conduct wine tastings for staff and customers, educating guests on different types of wine.
- Wine pairings Sommeliers suggest food and wine pairings to servers and customers. They should understand the restaurant's food menus and item preparation to develop wine pairings that work with the culinary programs.
- Inventory management Sommeliers are responsible for purchasing, inventory management, and pricing wine. They should monitor wine inventory and maintain the wine cellar.
- Staff training Sommeliers train waitstaff on wine knowledge, service, and etiquette.
- Vendor relationships Sommeliers develop and maintain relationships with wine vendors and distributors. They may also attend distributor tastings and trade events.
- Budget and sales Sommeliers work with upper management to accomplish sales targets and meet ownership expectations. They should be aware of budget information and the margins that must be made.
- Service Sommeliers should provide exceptional customer service. They should also ensure that servers and bartenders are not over-pouring.
- Teamwork Sommeliers interact with customers, managers, chefs, and serving staff. They should develop strong teamwork skills to get along with everyone.
