Job Title: Materials/Purchasing Agent

Shift: 1st (7:00am to 4:00pm, Mon-Fri)

Reports To: Operations Manager

Location: Birmingham, AL

Salary: $70k-80k DOE

About Our Client:

Our client is a rapidly expanding leader in the metal processing and fabrication industry. We are looking for a dedicated and experienced Materials/Purchasing Agent to join their growing team. This individual will play a key role in ensuring our operations run smoothly by maintaining optimal stock levels, managing material forecasts, and working closely with suppliers to meet production demands.

Key Responsibilities:

• Manage and update material forecasts, communicating changes to suppliers as needed
• Release materials for timely delivery to maintain stock levels above minimums
• Assist with negotiating material pricing with suppliers to optimize costs
• Create and track purchase orders for job-specific materials
• Monitor inventory both on the shop floor and within company's operational system
• Investigate and measure inventory losses to identify root causes
• Generate lot numbers for material deliveries and ensure proper documentation of material certifications
• Support the Operations Manager in obtaining sample cuts for material certifications
• Organize the receiving and storage of customer-supplied materials

Job Requirements:

• 1-3 years of experience in purchasing or materials management
• Experience in the steel industry is a plus
• Basic computer skills (Word, Excel, etc.) required
• Familiarity with operating systems such as SAP or JobBoss is a plus
