Our client, a global leader in mechanical and electrical construction, facilities services, and operations management is seeking a detail-oriented, experienced Payroll Manager to oversee the processing of payroll for approximately 400 employees (union and non-union). This role involves ensuring the accurate and timely processing of weekly payroll, compliance reporting, and handling payroll taxes on a contract basis.
The ideal candidate will be proficient in payroll processing, have a strong understanding of tax regulations, and maintain strict confidentiality in handling employee information.
What you will do:
- Process weekly payroll for union and non-union employees in compliance with established procedures.
- Remit payroll taxes, child support, and benefit deductions in an accurate and timely manner.
- Submit certified payroll reports as required by specific projects.
- Collaborate with HR for employee onboarding, benefits administration, and general employee matters.
- Manage enrollments and de-enrollments for non-union employees in benefits programs (401k, STD, Health Insurance).
- Process wage garnishments and tax levies and respond to employee inquiries.
- Maintain and update union rates, fringe benefits, and generate monthly union reports.
- Complete quarterly payroll tax reconciliations and annual payroll taxes, including W2s and 1095s.
- Handle requests from state agencies regarding unemployment claims and tax matters.
- Assist with annual insurance audits and union audits as required.
Who you are:
- Bachelor’s Degree and at least 4 years of relevant payroll experience, or equivalent work experience.
- Professional payroll certification is a plus.
- Previous experience in union payroll processing is required.
- Solid understanding of state and federal payroll tax filings, worker’s compensation, and labor laws (including Mass Sick Time Law, MAPFML).
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and payroll software.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Strong attention to detail, ability to work autonomously, and meet deadlines.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times.
