Job Summary: The Shipping and Receiving Clerk is responsible for managing and coordinating all activities related to the receipt, storage, and dispatch of goods. This role plays a crucial part in ensuring the efficiency of the supply chain by handling both incoming and outgoing shipments, maintaining accurate inventory records, and ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Receiving Shipments:
- Receive deliveries, check for accuracy against purchase orders, and inspect for damages or defects.
- Sign off on deliveries and manage related documentation.
- Inventory Management:
- Update inventory records in the company's inventory management systems.
- Monitor stock levels to ensure adequate supply and coordinate with procurement when necessary.
- Shipping Coordination:
- Prepare items for shipment by packaging, labeling, and securing them appropriately to prevent damage during transport.
- Generate shipping documents, including bills of lading and shipping labels.
- Arrange and coordinate with shipping carriers for timely dispatch.
- Equipment Operation:
- Operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and other material handling equipment safely.
- Maintain equipment in good working condition and report any issues.
- Safety Compliance:
- Adhere to all safety regulations and company policies regarding shipping and receiving operations.
- Participate in safety training and ensure a safe working environment.
- Documentation and Records:
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of all shipments and receipts.
- Handle all paperwork in compliance with company procedures and regulations.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED; additional education in logistics or supply chain management is a plus.
- Experience in a manufacturing or warehouse environment preferred, ideally as a shipping and receiving clerk.
- Must have or be willing to obtain forklift certification.
- Basic computer skills for inventory management software and Microsoft Office.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication abilities for coordinating with vendors, carriers, and internal teams.
- Physical capability to lift heavy packages and stand for extended periods.
