Job Summary
Perform nursing care and assist with planning and implementing care for the comfort and well-being of patients under the direct supervision of a registered nurse. Ensure a safe working environment, perform all related job responsibilities safely, and maintain clinical and professional competency appropriate to the ages, developmental stages, and special needs of the patients served.
Essential Functions
* Participate in patient assessments by determining nursing care needs based on relevant data collection and interpretation.
* Recognize and determine the need for immediate intervention.
* Document patient observations, treatments, and responses using the nursing process.
* Assist actively in treatments and procedures.
* Contribute to the development/revision of the care plan by providing data and identifying potential goals and interventions for RN review.
* Communicate with appropriate clinical staff about significant changes in a patient's status.
* Implement the identified plan under RN supervision, ensuring task completion.
* Stay informed about patient progress and goals as documented in medical records.
* Organize workload and prioritize responsibilities to deliver quality patient care efficiently.
* Attain knowledge and competence reflecting current nursing practice, performing only those skills within legal boundaries and facility policies.
* Document assessments, procedures, patient/family education, and communication with healthcare team members promptly.
* Provide and assess the effectiveness of patient and family education under RN direction within the legal scope of practice.
Physical Requirements
Work involves walking, standing, sitting, lifting, reaching, bending, pushing, and pulling. Must be able to lift and support 35 pounds when handling patients, medical equipment, and supplies. Must understand and speak fluent English, with intact senses of sight, hearing, smell, and touch, finger dexterity, critical thinking, and concentration abilities. Must respond quickly to changes in patient and unit conditions. All applicants must undergo a physical ability test as a condition of employment.
Skills
* Current LPN licensure or temporary license as a licensed practical nurse petitioner required.
* Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider (BLS HCP) from AHA required.
Education
Graduation from an accredited school of practical nursing required.
