A Day in the Life of a Mechanical Engineer
In this role, you’ll be at the heart of innovative industrial projects, working on mechanical systems for cutting-edge facilities. Your designs and engineering expertise will ensure projects meet rigorous industry standards, client specifications, and safety regulations, contributing to the overall success and sustainability of these operations.
Responsibilities include:
- Developing and reviewing engineering deliverables such as P&IDs, equipment specs, data sheets, calculations, drawings, and reports
- Designing detailed mechanical systems, including piping, HVAC, pressure vessels, rotating equipment, and material handling systems
- Conducting stress analyses and hydraulic calculations to guarantee system integrity
- Preparing technical specifications and bid evaluations for procurement
- Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams (process, civil, structural, electrical, instrumentation) for integrated designs
- Participating in HAZOP studies, design reviews, and project meetings
- Ensuring compliance with industry codes, standards, and safety regulations
- Providing technical support during construction and commissioning phases
- Mentoring junior engineers and designers
Requirements and Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution
- Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred, but not required
- 5+ years of experience in mechanical engineering design within an EPC environment
- Proven expertise in designing piping systems, pressure vessels, rotating equipment, and HVAC systems
- Proficiency in design software (e.g., AutoCAD, Plant 3D, Caesar II, Compress)
- Strong understanding of industry codes and standards (ASME, API, ANSI)
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and team collaboration skills
- Willingness to travel ~25% and work primarily in-office (80-90% of the time)
