The Role:
We are seeking an experienced professional in composites manufacturing to define and scale in-house composites production processes, from raw materials to flight-ready components. This role will focus on advancing ceramic matrix composite (CMC) production lines and supporting the production of composite vehicle parts such as nozzles, aeroshells, and fins. Reporting to the Head of Manufacturing, this position will collaborate with engineering leadership to address challenges and achieve long-term goals. As an early hire in the manufacturing team, this individual will play a pivotal role in shaping the manufacturing strategy and culture for the organization.
Responsibilities:
- Plan and execute capital equipment and facility layout projects to meet operational needs.
- Develop and refine process documentation, including build instructions, validation procedures, health and safety standards, and manufacturing bills of materials (mBOMs).
- Create, maintain, and communicate detailed production plans and schedules.
- Collaborate with the supply chain team to develop new and existing suppliers as needed.
- Design, develop, and implement production tooling and equipment.
- Participate in design reviews to drive Design for Manufacturing (DFM) practices.
- Oversee the introduction and implementation of new products and manufacturing capabilities.
- Analyze and resolve manufacturing issues and non-conformances.
- Mentor and train team members to foster continuous improvement and knowledge sharing.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, aerospace, manufacturing engineering, or a related technical field.
- At least 5 years of experience in composite manufacturing.
- Background in operations or product line management.
- Demonstrated leadership experience, either direct or indirect.
- Proficiency in CAD/CAM software (e.g., NX or equivalent).
- Experience with selecting, procuring, and implementing manufacturing equipment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Hands-on experience with filament winding, automated fiber placement, and/or automated tape laying.
- Familiarity with non-destructive testing (NDT) or inspection of composite components.
- Knowledge of qualification and acceptance testing for composite structural components.
- Experience with capacity modeling, process mapping, Lean/Six Sigma, and value stream mapping.
- Expertise in ceramic matrix composites.
- Track record of transitioning development processes to high-rate production.
