Job Description: Clinical Psychologist

Position Title: Clinical Psychologist Corrections

Location: Freeland, Michigan

Hours: M-F 8:00 am-4:30 pm

Department: Mental Health Services

Employment Type: Full-Time


Position Overview

We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Clinical Psychologist to join our mental health team within a correctional facility. The Clinical Psychologist will provide psychological assessments, therapeutic interventions, and crisis management for an incarcerated population. This role focuses on supporting mental health and promoting emotional well-being in a secure environment.


Key Responsibilities

Mental Health Assessments and Diagnostics:

  • Conduct psychological evaluations and risk assessments to identify mental health needs.
  • Diagnose and develop treatment plans for mental health disorders, including anxiety, depression, PTSD, and substance use disorders.

Therapeutic Interventions:

  • Provide individual and group therapy sessions, using evidence-based practices.
  • Implement crisis intervention strategies to de-escalate situations and provide immediate support.
  • Offer psychoeducation to inmates to support emotional and behavioral well-being.

Case Management and Collaboration:

  • Coordinate care plans with medical and mental health professionals, as well as correctional staff.
  • Monitor progress and adapt interventions based on the evolving needs of inmates.

Documentation and Compliance:

  • Maintain thorough, accurate, and timely documentation of assessments, treatment plans, and progress notes.
  • Ensure compliance with facility policies, state regulations, and ethical standards.

Training and Advocacy:

  • Provide guidance and training to correctional staff on mental health issues and de-escalation techniques.
  • Advocate for mental health needs and services for the incarcerated population.


Qualifications

Education and Certification:

  • Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology, Counseling Psychology, or a related field.
  • Active and unrestricted license to practice psychology in Michigan. Limited Licenses are acceptable.
  • Additional certifications in trauma-informed care or crisis intervention are a plus.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 1 years of experience providing psychological services

Skills:

  • Strong clinical judgment and diagnostic skills.
  • Excellent communication, active listening, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency with electronic health records (EHR) and documentation standards.
  • Ability to manage stress and maintain professionalism in a high-pressure, secure environment.

Working Conditions

  • This position operates in a secure correctional facility.
  • Shifts may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Physical requirements include sitting or standing for extended periods and responding promptly to emergencies when necessary.
