Position Summary:
Under the direct supervision is primarily responsible for performing histological procedures on anatomic specimens. Maintains accurate, legible and neat records of all specimens, file blocks, slides and maintains quality control standards. Demonstrates knowledge of the organization’s Services Standards and incorporates them into the performance of duties.
Responsibilities :
- Assist with the supervision of the technical staff and provides support to the A/P Manager
- Assist in the maintenance of laboratory equipment, i.e. Tissue Processors, and keeping the laboratory clean and orderly
- Prepares specimens to be tested; Performs tissue samples according to established laboratory procedures.
- Prepare solutions according to established procedures in the Histology Laboratory Procedure Manual
- Prepares appropriate staining solutions according to established procedures in the Laboratory Procedure Manual
- Embeds, cuts, stains, coverslips and labels surgical and autopsy pathology specimens
- Monitors testing equipment, solutions and work environment by following laboratory Quality Control procedures to ensure the overall reliability of test results. Performs quality control procedures with fixing solutions, stains instrument checks and documentations.
- Assist with inventory management
- Prepares reports and oversees all departmental documentation
- Trains new and current employees
- Participates in in-service, continuing education course and complete 12 CE credits per year.
