Job Summary:The CNC Machinist will provide machining and programming expertise to support the Specialty Tooling Department. This role involves setting up and operating CNC machinery, including Okuma, Nidec, Haas, Toyoda, and manual machines, to fabricate die/mold production components. The Machinist will be responsible for the quality output of the shift, managing workflow, optimizing machine feeds/speeds/cutting tools, and supporting team training and development.Key Responsibilities:CNC Machine Setup and Operation:Set up and operate CNC machines (Okuma, Nidec, Haas, Toyoda) and manual machines to fabricate die/mold components.Perform machining operations with precision and accuracy, adhering to safety and BJA guidelines.Adjust work assignments to ensure the most efficient workflow for the team, optimizing throughput.Programming Expertise:Program CNC machines using customer drawings and Master CAM machining software.Analyze and interpret design data, including technical drawings, to calculate correct part dimensions, select appropriate tooling, and determine machine speeds and feed rates.Make adjustments to machine programs as necessary to meet quality specifications.Inspection and Quality Control:Perform part inspections using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, and height indicators to ensure parts meet design and quality standards.Make mechanical and program adjustments to ensure parts conform to specifications.Tooling and Design:Create and modify drawings for specially ground tooling required for die/mold production, using AutoCAD Mechanical and Autodesk Inventor.Configure cutting tools and verify tool wear to ensure efficient production.Team Supervision and Training:Monitor the daily activities and work output of crew members, ensuring effective cooperation and adherence to deadlines.Assist in the development of repair processes for timely project completions.Serve as the primary trainer for less experienced machinists, providing guidance and expertise.Continuous Improvement:Evaluate and optimize machine feeds, speeds, and cutting tools to improve cost-effective throughput.Collaborate with the team to identify and implement improvements in machining processes and workflow.Required Qualifications:Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Additional certification or training in machining is preferred.Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience operating CNC machinery, with hands-on knowledge of Okuma, Nidec, Haas, Toyoda, and manual machines.Technical Skills:Proficiency in mathematics, 2D/3D computer-aided drafting (CAD), G/M codes, and general computing.Experience using Master CAM machining software and AutoCAD Mechanical or Autodesk Inventor.Ability to interpret technical drawings, perform part inspections, and use precision measuring tools (micrometers, calipers, height indicators).Preferred Qualifications:Experience: Previous experience in die/mold production is highly preferred.Certifications: Certification in CNC programming or related field (e.g., MasterCAM, Autodesk Inventor) is advantageous.Skills:Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to make adjustments to both mechanical and programming issues.Ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently while ensuring quality and safety standards are met.Physical Requirements:Ability to stand for long periods of time, lift heavy objects up to 50 lbs, and work in a manufacturing environment with machinery.Ability to use hand tools and machines, and the ability to work in environments with potential noise levels.Working Conditions:The role requires working in a fast-paced, safety-conscious environment with strict adherence to safety protocols and equipment handling.Flexibility to work extended hours or shifts as needed to meet production schedules.
