Job Title: Litigation Legal Assistant

Job Description:
The Legal Assistant will join a leading middle-market firm based in Chicago to enhance attorney effectiveness by providing information-management support and representing the attorneys to clients and others. Candidate will be supporting up to 10 attorneys with 3 other legal assistants in a predominantly administrative role, with some paralegal responsibilities which may grow over time.

- Salary range is $68,000-80,000 commensurate with experience

Essential Functions
- Prepare legal documents (pleadings, motions, discovery, notices, etc.).
- Draft correspondence, E-file and schedule motions.
- Schedule depositions, court reporters, and arrange for services of process.
- Manage case files ensuring accuracy and completeness, including assisting in the discovery process and trial preparation.
- Produce information by transcribing, formatting, inputting, editing, retrieving, copying, and transmitting text, data, and graphics.
- Conserve attorneys' time by handling correspondence, reports, and legal documents; drafting letters and documents; collecting and analyzing information; organizing client conferences and attorney meetings; scheduling couriers, court reporters, and expert witnesses; coordinating the preparation of courtroom visuals; preparing expense reports.
- Maintain attorney calendar by planning and scheduling conferences, teleconferences, depositions, and travel; recording and monitoring court appearance dates, pleadings, and filing requirements; monitoring evidence-gathering; anticipating changes in litigation or transaction preparation requirements.
- Input attorneys' time worked into financial/billing system; document and input attorney billable time and reimbursable expenses; prepare invoices; track payments.
- Provide historical reference by developing and utilizing filing and retrieval systems; recording meeting discussions; maintaining transcripts; documenting and maintaining evidence.
Skills & Qualifications
- Handle confidential matters discreetly.
- Work well under pressure, managing conflicting and fluctuating deadlines, and multiple high-priority tasks with minimal supervision.
- Knowledge of legal terminology specific to litigation
- Proper formatting of pleadings, citation form, constructing Tables of Authorities and Tables of Contents; serving counsel and filing legal documents with courts and administrative agencies.
- Knowledgeable about e-filing procedures and court proceedings for state, federal, and appellate courts as well as litigation case management such as discovery & pretrial documents
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, Adobe, Lexis/Nexis, Westlaw, Odyssey, Pacer, Net Docs.
Education & Experience
- High school diploma and secretarial or business training.
- 3-5 years of experience as a legal assistant in a law firm. Bachelor's degree a plus.
