Estimator – Utility-Scale Wind Energy Projects

Position Overview

The Estimator will play a key role in planning, coordinating, and developing detailed cost estimates for utility-scale wind energy projects. This position requires extensive experience in estimating wind projects of 100 MW+ and expertise in creating accurate, crew-based production estimates tailored to wind energy systems. The Estimator will collaborate closely with project and construction managers to optimize costs, assess contractor and labor needs, and prepare pricing proposals specific to wind projects.


This role will also involve supporting preconstruction activities such as budgeting, scheduling, vendor qualification, and procurement coordination, all while ensuring that projects meet high standards of quality and profitability.


Key Responsibilities

Wind Project Planning & Estimation

  • Develop accurate, crew-based production estimates for 100 MW+ wind projects, leveraging historical productivity data and project insights.
  • Collaborate with project and construction managers to create comprehensive project schedules and execution plans specific to wind energy systems.
  • Prepare detailed bid reviews, including estimation methodology, risk assessments, and cost analyses, ensuring precision and transparency in project proposals.
  • Work with engineering teams to ensure wind project designs meet constructability standards and align with project execution plans.


Client Coordination and Communication

  • Serve as a key point of contact for clients on wind project estimates, ensuring alignment with project scope, schedules, and budgetary requirements.
  • Foster strong client relationships by providing clear, collaborative communication and delivering estimates that align with their renewable energy goals.


Procurement & Vendor Management

  • Collaborate with procurement teams to assess vendor bids and develop subcontractor and supplier scopes tailored to wind project needs.
  • Engage with local and Indigenous communities to establish partnerships and leverage regional expertise for wind energy projects.
  • Ensure all vendor and subcontractor agreements align with project goals for cost, schedule, and performance.


Project Leadership & Strategy

  • Lead the estimation process for wind energy projects, driving consistency and accuracy across all phases of project planning and execution.
  • Provide mentorship to junior team members, sharing best practices in wind project estimation and cost management.
  • Contribute to the development of strategies for improving efficiency and profitability in utility-scale wind projects.


Skills and Qualifications

  • Extensive experience developing estimates for 100 MW+ utility-scale wind energy projects.
  • Strong knowledge of wind project design, EPC processes, and crew-based estimating techniques.
  • Proficiency in estimating and scheduling tools such as Primavera P6 and Hard Dollar (InEight) is preferred.
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills for working with cross-functional teams and clients on wind-specific initiatives.
  • Leadership abilities, including mentoring and supporting junior staff in wind project estimation.
  • Familiarity with materials, methods, and equipment specific to wind energy construction.


Education and Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Science, Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in renewable energy estimation, with a strong focus on utility-scale wind projects.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of engineering, scheduling, and contracting processes specific to wind energy systems.


Location and Work Environment

This is an office-based role located in Calgary, AB, with travel to wind project sites required for proposal development and project execution.
