Position Overview
We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Clinical Psychologist to join our mental health team within a correctional facility. The Clinical Psychologist will provide psychological assessments, therapeutic interventions, and crisis management for an incarcerated population. This role focuses on supporting mental health and promoting emotional well-being in a secure environment.
Key Responsibilities
Mental Health Assessments and Diagnostics:
- Conduct psychological evaluations and risk assessments to identify mental health needs.
- Diagnose and develop treatment plans for mental health disorders, including anxiety, depression, PTSD, and substance use disorders.
Therapeutic Interventions:
- Provide individual and group therapy sessions, using evidence-based practices.
- Implement crisis intervention strategies to de-escalate situations and provide immediate support.
- Offer psychoeducation to inmates to support emotional and behavioral well-being.
Case Management and Collaboration:
- Coordinate care plans with medical and mental health professionals, as well as correctional staff.
- Monitor progress and adapt interventions based on the evolving needs of inmates.
Documentation and Compliance:
- Maintain thorough, accurate, and timely documentation of assessments, treatment plans, and progress notes.
- Ensure compliance with facility policies, state regulations, and ethical standards.
Training and Advocacy:
- Provide guidance and training to correctional staff on mental health issues and de-escalation techniques.
- Advocate for mental health needs and services for the incarcerated population.
Qualifications
Education and Certification:
- Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology, Counseling Psychology, or a related field.
- Active and unrestricted license to practice psychology in Michigan. Limited Licenses are acceptable.
- Additional certifications in trauma-informed care or crisis intervention are a plus.
Experience:
- Minimum of 1 years of experience providing psychological services
Skills:
- Strong clinical judgment and diagnostic skills.
- Excellent communication, active listening, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency with electronic health records (EHR) and documentation standards.
- Ability to manage stress and maintain professionalism in a high-pressure, secure environment.
Working Conditions
- This position operates in a secure correctional facility.
- Shifts may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Physical requirements include sitting or standing for extended periods and responding promptly to emergencies when necessary.
