In-House Counsel / Assistant General Counsel – Commercial Real Estate (Associate Level)

Location: NY, NY Full-time, remote 2 days per week

Our client, a well-established alternative investment fund, is at the forefront of the commercial real estate sector. Currently they have approximately 10B AUM. Sokol Associates Inc. is seeking a talented, driven, and detail-oriented In-House Counsel to join our clients small and dynamic legal team. This is a unique opportunity for an associate from a top-tier law firm to transition into an in-house role and provide strategic legal support across a wide range of commercial real estate transactions.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide legal support in the structuring, negotiation, and execution of commercial real estate transactions, including acquisitions, dispositions, leases, joint ventures, and financing.
• Advise on complex real estate-related legal issues, including title, zoning, land use, environmental compliance, and regulatory matters.
• Draft and review a wide variety of real estate contracts, including purchase and sale agreements, lease agreements, easements, and other property-related documentation.
• Collaborate closely with internal business teams, including development, finance, and operations, to ensure alignment on legal strategy and risk management.
• Conduct legal research and provide advice on relevant changes in law or market trends impacting the company’s real estate activities.
• Manage outside counsel as needed, ensuring effective and efficient legal service delivery.
• Assist with dispute resolution, including overseeing litigation and negotiating settlements related to real estate matters.

Qualifications: MUST-HAVES!

• JD from an accredited law school.
• 3-7 years of experience in commercial real estate law, gained at a top-tier law firm.
• Strong knowledge of real estate transactions, including acquisitions, dispositions, leasing, and financing.
• Excellent drafting and negotiation skills with a keen eye for detail.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative, and dynamic environment.
• Strong business acumen with the ability to communicate complex legal concepts to non-legal stakeholders.
• Active Bar membership in New York, California, or Texas.
