Works independently in a "zone reporting directly to a second level supervisor. May guide and instruct other staff in the performance of a wide range of refrigeration and air conditioning duties required for all University Housing facilities. Provide a wide range of highly skilled refrigeration, air conditioning, and mechanical duties required for the installation, maintenance, modification, and repair of all University Housing facilities HVAC equipment. May guide and instruct craft trainees. May perform any duties of the group. May be assigned to perform general trade duties in other trade areas.Among the key duties of this position are the following:nnPrimarily responsible for the performance of such refrigeration and air conditioning duties as the assembly, installation, and repair of a variety of equipment, including condensers, controls, fan, motors, compressors, pipes, etc.nMay fabricate sheet metal and/or aluminum ductwork and replace filters. Cleans and lubricates equipment. Requisitions additional materials and parts. Installs piping directly associated with HVAC equipment. Locates power source and may install wiring and/or insulate shells and cabinets of systems. Uses a variety of testing devices and tools. Cleans shop and work areas. Detects faulty operation of equipment; reports questionable conditions to supervisor; issues work orders to supervisors as necessary. Provides guidance and instruction to craft trainees. Performs related duties as required.nIf not in a group leading situation, works in a "zone" or is the only HVAC /Maintenance Mechanic on a campus. Responsible for the repair and maintenance of university equipment and facilities supplies and materials and prioritizing and estimating work. Notifies supervisor of any emergent problems discovered through performance of assigned duties.nSecondarily responsible for planning and performing repair and preventive maintenance duties for various types of university property and equipment.
