Maintenance / Diesel Mechanic This position is responsible for performing mechanical repairs and preventative maintenance on company fleet vehicles and equipment. Experience preferred but we will train the right candidate. The number of hours worked per week will depend on the workload for that week and can range anywhere from 32 hrs per week to 60 hours per week, having the ability to change weekly. Benefits: $500 Bonus after 60 Days of employment Medical, Dental, and Vision Insurance after 60 Days Vacation and Sick PTO after 60 Days Holiday Pay after 60 Days 401K Retirement Account after 1 Year Life Insurance after 1 Year Employee Assistance Program for employees and immediate family Shared Fitness Membership Employee of the Year Award (Disney World) Responsibilities: Perform general mechanical repairs to Elgin Recycling vehicles in an effort to correct malfunctions and reduce further damage, including troubleshooting procedures and repair in the following areas: Electrical system (i.e. alternator, starter, etc.) Remove, replace and adjust equipment to keep them up to date and performing at its best capacity Working knowledge of using diagnostic equipment/tools Perform preventative maintenance on Elgin Recycling equipment including tractors, trailers, forklifts and shop machinery and equipment in an effort to enhance the use life of the equipment including: Check, change and replace oil, oil filter and air filter Lube chassis parts Check/diagnose battery as needed Knowledge of cab controls and functions General machine and equipment maintenance within our facilities Identify tire wear to prevent abnormal wear and potential tire related accidents: Check tires on a scheduled basis for wear and proper air pressure Maintain the shop area by keeping tools and equipment picked up, placing cleaning agents on oil and liquid spills, sweeping the shop area floor, dumping trash and identifying safety hazards and proper corrective action Maintain a repair record for each vehicle by recording repairs/maintenance performed, dating and signing work order to provide an accurate record for planning and evaluation purposes Perform safety inspections, noting components repaired and date repaired on the report. Ensure equipment is in full compliance with state/federal safety regulations and Elgin Recycling standards. (signed off by manager) Assist with emergency road call service Follow Elgin Recycling standards, safe work methods proper tool use, maintenance and handling Basic mechanical repair and trouble-shooting techniques associated with vans and trucks Knowledge of servicing practices associated with vans and trucks & Illinois Safety Inspection Process and Procedures; tire maintenance and mounting techniques; steam cleaning equipment operation; parts associated with equipment repair and maintenance; basic record keeping skills Must plan and organize work efficiently; follow scheduled instructions, wiring diagrams, maintenance and other guidelines associated with the maintenance/repair of vans and trucks. Manage work time efficiently; follow procedures and policies; deal with frequent change, delays or unexpected events Ability to use Mig/Arc welder, cutting torch, air wrench and hand tools Dependable and consistently at work on time Apply common sense and understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions Determine excessive wear on equipment Drive trucks as needed to help expedite repair and ensure proper performance Ability to take directions from management Adaptability to new environments and work locations Any additional requirements asked by management Physical Demands: Job requires the employee to be on their feet standing/walking 80% of the time and sitting is required for the remaining 20% of the time (Although these percentages may vary depending on need) Heavy lifting involved- Ability to lift and carry materials and equipment up to 50 pounds Normal range of vision, depth perception and hearing is needed Ability to bend, kneel, stoop and reach above the shoulders is required The ability to work in both extreme heat and cold weather conditions is required Frequently works near moving mechanical parts and has exposure to common maintenance/scrap yard hazards J-18808-Ljbffr
