Position Overview
The Histo Technologist Supervisor assumes responsibility for the technical operations of the histology laboratory. This role involves supervising, training, and mentoring laboratory personnel while ensuring compliance with CAP standards and maintaining the highest quality and safety in all laboratory processes.
The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented professional with proven leadership experience in histology and a passion for fostering a collaborative work environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Technical Operations: Oversee the technical functions of the histology lab, ensuring compliance with established policies and procedures.
- Quality & Safety: Manage implementation and maintenance of quality, efficiency, and safety standards to meet CAP compliance.
- Team Leadership: Supervise and coordinate activities of histotechnicians and laboratory personnel. Provide training, mentorship, and performance evaluations.
- Problem Solving: Demonstrate initiative in tracking and resolving issues, ensuring test methods and instruments are accurate and reliable.
- Inventory Management: Maintain an adequate supply of materials and participate in cost analysis for existing and prospective tests.
- Scheduling: Assign schedules, delegate tasks, and ensure timely completion of workload.
- Hands-On Support: Assist with bench work as needed to meet workload demands.
Qualifications
- Education & Certification:
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
- Certification as a Histotechnologist (HTL) or Histotechnician (HT) by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP).
- Experience:
- Minimum of 3 years in a histology laboratory.
- Leadership experience preferred.
- Skills:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Proficient in cost analysis, laboratory operations, and test development.
